Intel has released the i7 3770k CPU for right now. The CPU is basically a die shrink of the i7 2600K, and includes a improved graphics core.

Well I guess waiting for this was a big ho-hum. Sandy beats it still in a lot of benchmarks.

Next up, AMD Vishera comes out of left field and competes with Ivy Bridge, beating it in overclocking and matching performance at stock, giving you more cores for the price, but sadly uses more power.

... Which is what I'm hoping will realistically happen later this year.

This was a 'tick' of Intel's 'tick-tock' model. Basically a 'tick' is just a die shrink of a previous architecture, Westmere (Westmere-EX, Westmere-EP, Gulftown, Clarkdale, Arrandale) was Intel's last 'tick' where as Sandy Bridge was a 'tock'. The next 'tock' will be Q2 next year and it is codenamed Haswell.
