Correct me if I'm wrong here, but I thought most 'mechs have fusion reactors, not nuclear fission. A fusion containment breach would release a huge amount of energy, but still not like the trailer. It would be a nasty explosion though, akin to a large gas main explosion or fuel truck explosion.

There is a system in MechCommander where pilot stats were tracked according to 'mech kills AND pilot kills. This is about the only way I could see an eject system serving any kind of function. If there were bonuses, let's say, for killing opposing pilots (no detriment to the other pilot of course), then maybe you could deny the other 'mechwarrior his pilot kill bonus at the last second. But other than that I don't see a real function to this.
