Ah, well. They did add 2-person platoons that one does not need a premium account to start, but I agree with you--it's a very cheap, and I think unnecessary, way to try to motivate people to buy a premium account. I think WoT has a good plan with the 50% more credits/xp for a premium account and don't really think anything more is needed. It's a strong bonus that incentivizes people to pay for it, is worth paying for if you get into the game more than passingly casually and does not introduce any "pay to win" elements.

The two greatest banes of WoT are it's absurd spotting system where tanks disappear 200m in front of you AFTER you've spotted them. As a friend of mine pointed out a while ago, with good camoflage you might not notice a tank 500 feet away, but once you've see it you don't magically UNSEE it. The second great bane is the single game mode, which gets dreadfully old. The matchmaker is poor, to be sure, but in all honesty it's not crucial that every single match be perfectly balanced (only that matches are, in general, balanced over the course of dozens and hundreds of games).

The two biggest game design choices in WoT that clearly favored money over sound game design are:

1) Intentionally designing away variety in clan wars (WoT's version of the endgame). Only end tier tanks are competitive. This was to motivate gold sales since people convert xp with gold to accelerate their progress up the tech tree, along with the premium tank to pay for it. This leaves clan wars participants mostly bored as balls after a month or two because there are only a few viable strats per map, with the same few tanks. Simply put, the clan wars endgame is boring, but by the time people get there they've usually spent enough real money for it to be worthwhile to wargaming, which is sad to me. Fortunately for WG.net, they've been aggressive in adding tournament play as an alternative to clan wars endgame play.

2) "Power creep" with new tank trees. The french tree was recently released with incredibly underpowered early tanks and grossly overpowered end tier tanks. This really rubbed me the wrong way, since it was such a transparent money grab. So many people converted free xp, including me, to skip the terrible early tanks to get to the end tier tanks, WG doubtlessly made a fortune from that expansion alone. Fortunately for me, I make my gold from the tournies, but obviously not everyone can do that. Then, ofc, a few months later they buff the lower tier French tanks slightly and give the high tier tanks a nerf. Figures, right.

But haters aside, the truth is that WoT has done a lot of things right. With a few changes, especially regarding endgame content and otherwise allowing money to dictate fundamental game design issues it would be pretty much the perfect model. I'm of the opinion that if you build a great game with longlasting appeal (read: viable and enduring endgame) then people will pay to play it over the long haul. I think trying to extract as much money from people on their way to the endgame, knowing they'll get bored when they get there (read: WoT) is fundamentally flawed and misses a great opportunity.

I would love to pay for a premium account to MWO for years, but they're going to have to give me a reason to and I hope that reason is sound, engaging endgame play.

What i think they did wrong is that they earned lots of money from players and now i was expecting they will make game a lot better
but nothing happend expect added few tanks and some other cheap stuff, and they are making two other games while wot is still not perfected it looks like it will never be. What games like wot need is players when they get to endgame then they just start to think about dominating over others fight for something, like in mmorpgs (e.g lineage 2 on weekends people fight to control main cities and gain gold +
castle), and when players achieve goal they have to fight to protect it and thats fun. too me it looks like WG guys are too greedy.

Well, all the popular, really successful games will have their share of doomsayers. You see them about WoW, CoD, Battlefield..and how every new title is going to end them.

Funny thing is, if MWO is to achieve that level of popularity (and its looking like it), it too will have its own share of the same negative crowd as well and how every future new title in its genre is going to bury it. Just wait and see :)

Well the people of WoT will be "excited" to play the new World of Warplanes and World of Battleships when those come out.

Are you saying these folks are actually looking for more frustrating grind-o-matic gaming. Those games you mentioned will come complete with the Ruskies' perfected grind-o-matic MM and lowered credit earning from matches for the purest form of frustration from the very start. Guess some people love that sort of thing. More power to WG to keep those types. I'd rather see other rewards besides money growing wings and flying out of my wallet to advance in a poorly developed game (spotting, RNG, 0 damage hits, etc).

I must say I loved the concept of the game, but the devs at WG aren't shy at exposing their greedy side and giving little in return for it. Thus some players have gotten buyer's remorse. I regret spending the 20 bucks almost a year ago. I will pay for fun. I wont pay for frustration.

I am sure this game will be a vast improvement over 3rd world country coding.

wot has 10000 people online at any given time. They arent going to suffer at all. I would be ecstatic if we have 1000

They didn't have that much players at start, trough beta wot gained popularity and if they did improve game with all that money they could have 50k people always online. MW:o is yet to be seen and its will gain popularity when game goes open beta i don't expect many players but i expect grow in each day.

I won't unistall WOT but I doubt if it will see much playtime. I still play a few rounds a night and I've almost got my E100.

Depending on the core mechanics and endgame gameplay, I may or may not give WoT up entirely. Not that I can't handle multiple games, but WoT fills a nice RvR feel with all the politics, diplomacy, and war that can be had. If MWO can be just as engaging mentally or more so, why play WoT, which suffers from poor optimization in every corner and can feel rather shallow as far as everything but the metagame?

If however, MWO just turns out to be randomized deathmatches with the BT RvR element of the series as background noise, I'll continue to play WoT for my fix. I'll be sad and a bit depressed inside, and might not be a stable or long term customer, but I won't give up giant fighting robots so easily.

That would be my guess that there will be people who just plain don't care if the new WG games suck...they'll still play them. Kinda like the CoD games. I like WoT's concept and all, but I find it frustrating as well now. I thought the game was awesome at first, now it just sucks and is boring. That's why I've been looking foward to this game.

I might keep playing World of Tanks even when Mechwarrior Online comes out, on a reduced basis by the way.

I lasted two weeks in WoT because I hate it so much. I gave it up to go back to MW4....

I second that.

In any case, i couldn't care less wether WoT suffers or not. If you enjoy winning by paying for it, be my guest.

I still play WoT but i only play now on a limited basis because of Xbox live and WoT gets pretty boring fast if you play every single day which i did for like the first 2 months i had it.

I'm a tanker. In gaming, anyway...in real life, I'm a flight dispatcher. But I LURVE tanks. I even tried to join the Army as a tanker, but they said I was too tall. Tried to join Canada's tank crews, but I have to already be a citizen for that to work. So...I tank in video games. BF2142, MWLL, WOT, even in tabletop Battletech I use a lot of tanks...so being in Hell's Horses makes sense for me. :)

I can't drive tanks in MWO (yet...maybe in the future at some point?), so I will enjoy MWO for what it is/will be at launch, and enjoy Radio KATN.

I used to be a moderator in WoT for most of the closed beta and shortly after release / server split. I don't
play a ton any more due to all the issues - namely, 2 years after I started playing it's still the same old grindfest,
messed up matchmaker, and zero new things to keep my interest besides a few maps and the tanks.

WoT is stale - new maps and tanks dont cut it with all the other issues the game has. Most importantly, the same
grindy repetitive gameplay is what made me say "enough is enough". I still play, but nowhere near as much as I
used to. Looking forward to this game - might just be the game that makes me uninstall WoT for good!

I don't know about you all, but I thought that WoT SUCKED! Mostly because I kept getting one-shotted in my front armour. THE FRONT ARMOUR. THE MOST HEAVILY ARMORED PART OF A TANK.

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAX!

In short, screw WoT. GIANT ROBOTS ARE BETTER THAN TANKS.
