I have to admit I was really disappointed this week. I knew it wouldn't be super mega awesome like the hype, but probably another mech concept. That is ok....until I saw the mech. I never realized the 'Stork' battlemech was a big part of the battletech universe. :(

Er, congratulations? Everyone's view of what is "reality" and what is "balanced" is subjective - thus meaningless to discuss here.

Sounds like someone did not have a healthy balanced breakfast... I thought the reference to breakfast and the copious use of exclamation points portrayed the sarcasm and overall joviality of the post quite well

I keep my expectation low. This is their debut game after all (I mean IGP) and they arent exactly very wealthy.

PGI taking a huge gamble with this because if they fail to deliver they will go down to the gutter. Seriously.
I haven't even seen another major projects underway in their belt at this moment of time.

It's seem full on MWO.

So MWO will be a All or Nothing attempt.

"PC gaming has been hurting in recent years IMO"

speaks the truth. But I`d go as far to say that this has been going on for at least 10 years.

I remember the heady days of way back when..... when the game devs would always be pushing each other to deliver amazing freedom of movement/choice PC games. The shelves would be loaded to the nutz at the game retailers. Healthy competition. Now since the bigger players swallowed all the Indy Devs, it is a literal Dictatorship incomparison. And what do we get now? Cookie cutter overscripted event no freedom of movement 0% replay value rock/paper/scizzored to death FODDER! pieces o`shoite!!!!

Anyone here old enough to remember 25+ hour sp game campaign content? Remember included Mod Tools, and Dedicated server software to run your own Servers????? I do. How did we get forced into paying 59 bucks for sub 6 hour sp campaigns, and this loaded with forced scripted event content???? How did we go from game dev teams/publishers promising small, but delivering big? To promising Big, but delivering little. The last time I checked, 59 bucks was still worth .... 59 bucks. But a PC game these days, is being sold at the 59 buck price point, but delivering us what? A 29.95 PC game experience.... tops! We pay top dollar for what was once considered a budget PC game experience.

And don`t even get me started on the ol "but the developement costs have risen etc etc etc". Ok, instead of bending us over and giving less, then raise the cost at the PC store counters.

The games used to push the vid card manufacturers. Sadly THESE days, we see vid cards released, and all they do is play your older games faster. And the paltry insulting AAA+ release timetable today.... well there is no longer any real reason to regularly update your vid card.

Yup, the old days are gone. And VERY few devs today are really giving us the love. And peeps wonder why some of us look back so fondly.

Having everything seen before the game even launches is not the way games should be made.

Look at today´s launch trailers (SC 2, ME 2, for example). Not only they released videos of one quarter of the whole game, the videos include all of the cinematics in the game + ending sequences! It takes all of that WOW! effect away and makes the game a lot worse in the impression department. -_-

Did you give them any money yet? I didn't. Someone did though. And it's PGI's job to to be able to show "Look at all this hype, and we haven't even laid out the whole of the game yet. You sure put your money in the right place, investor, look at these forums, exploding with joy and angst."

Month after month, week after week they will do their best to keep us interested, checking, and posting while still leaving other things to show us later down in their timeline.

Now here's where you can stop feeling duped into being a Neilson rating.

The game is free. That means, 100%, they HAVE to deliver the goods. They can't overhype it, because they aren't trying to get our money up front, they need it AFTER we've played it. So, you can keep your expecations as high as PGI sets them, because its not like you'll be duped out of your dollars, if they don't live up to they hype, only they will suffer.

You meen i shouldent throw money at them? well i dont have any money to begin with so i guess thats good

And comparing MWO to mature games like Tribes:Ascend is not fair. Tribes has been around since oh let's see:

Quote

"
Tribes is a series of science fiction first-person shooter computer games originally developed by Dynamix, a subsidiary of Sierra Entertainment. Set in the same universe as the game Starsiege, there are six games in the Tribes series:
given the "Reboot" nature of MWO and the fact it will be a MVP release (not a bad thing really) allows for more flexibility down the road. As noted by others, folks "hype" themselves and when they feel jilted, blame the DEV.

Now I would just ask the DEV to hurry the (bleeping) up so we can Play the next freaking "Best Eva" MechWarrior game already fcol... lol ;)

Is the game over hyped? It may be over hyped for just the public beta but not for how the game will evolve over time. I think PGI is going in the right direction and their goals are clear and realistic.

When its released it will be (Russ Bullock, "Minimum Viable Product") in public beta which you could consider to be version 0.8. After a couple of rounds of updates it will be "live" and considered version 1.0.

yes hurry up please, I had to install mw4 for the first time in a decade and figure out how to make it run on 64bit with a 6core processor on sli on three monitors. It actually runs and it was fun hanging out with the GDL last night and getting raped in my little raven. But eventually I learned its best not to get shot when in a little bird when the big boys are stomping about.

As for over hype, actually the only thing I have seen from PGI is over enthusiasm for a title they obviously love as much as we do. Very little hype, just nice meet and greets with us the fans. Comstar, cough Paul came into our TS3 chat server last night joked around with us, didn't answer our probing questions and then made us a theme song. Thanks again Paul.

I feel that part of the reason I am so hyped is because MWLL shows the potential of what a modern Mechwarrior game can be. The more I play that game the more excited I become about a full blooded Mechwarrior game backed by a devoted and full-time development team.

This I doubt, as there are way to many people who never heard of MWLL.

Hype is the way of online games, best to stay cautiously optimistic.
