Did I missed an anouncement from the devs that they wouldn't include any more mechs?

Considering the model of the game and the fact mechs will be continuously added over time I don't really see what the beef is. And lets be fair. Aside from the unseen, most of these mechs are iconic to Battletech.

It seems to me that a lot of people are incorrectly assuming that the developers have stopped building mechs for the game and that the only mechs you'll ever see are the ones they've announced. To be equally as frank as the OP; that's just silly talk!

A slightly more likely scenario is that there are a bunch of mechs already finished that we haven't seen. I mean, wouldn't you say the mech announcements demonstrate that farily clearly? That aside, for BETA we'll probably only see the mechs they've announced. If for no other reason than the age old keep-them-wanting-more philosophy.

And as John pointed out, there will almost certainly be mechs showing up post launch. Unless all the self-entitled cry babies that seem to be the majority pull the cord and bail because they don't get what they want. I hope they're just a vocal minority.

I would like to see as much diversity as possible. That way each house will have mechs that are more specific to them. You shouldn't see many Panthers or Ravens running in Davion or Steiner lances. Also plays into the numerous different manufacturers and producers of battlemechs. I find it more fun not quite knowing what may come around the next corner.

It's unlikely we'll see anything that isn't popular already.

For the same reason that people play rehashed versions of Street Fighter 2, and those characters get put in every Street-fighter based game, and how Street Fighter 3-Third Strike failed so horribly. People want what's familiar, not what's new.

I think a Grasshopper and Stalker would be appropriate for this game. I also think that it's strange that there have not been any true speedy scouts so far in the game. Chances are that we won't see them. For all that this game rants and raves about "All Mechs having their role", it's tough to get it out of the fanbases' minds that more guns isn't always the best answer to everything, especially when Mechwarrior 2-through-4 hammered that point down hard.

As such, expect bigger, slower mechs with more weapons ports. The Dragon initially surprised me because of it's underwhelming firepower, but considering that it's one of the few early heavies that had any publicity in the past decade, it seems it was a given. Don't expect to see Cicadas or other low-end mediums, either.

I'm going to guess the following, based on popularity alone.

Next Assault: Highlander or Zeus
Next Heavy: Orion
Next Medium: Crab.

But if I had my say...

Next Assault: Stalker
Next Heavy: Grasshopper
Next Medium: Cicada, Vindicator, or Chameleon

Remember two huge words when it comes to what mechs can be used. SEEN / UNSEEN. Thanks to the "Sick Yada's" at harmony gold taking any thingthat has two color shades that look the same as their robocrap stuff to court. PGI only has only so many they can use, and they want to make money by releasing more content at a cost to us soooo why would they give us the whole cookie jar at once

I suspect we'll see three more mechs announced before launch, at least. One medium, one heavy and one assault. This will give three of each weight class, I think?

I then expect that each faction will have access to one mech from each weight class for free, based on what best fits it for canon. Beyond that, you will have to either salvage or purchase other mechs from the cash shop.

But I also expect we'll see several new mechs every month available in the shop. They need a way to earn an income and what better way to do so than to provide us with our hearts' desires...maybe it's a Highlander, or a Warhammer, whatever...the point is, mechs will keep on coming.

I agree it would be nice to see a few different mechs for a change, there are many interesting mechs out there that are an equal to most of the (same old) reliables we always get and deserve their chance to shine.

Atlas
Cyclops
Dragon
Jenner
Enforcer
Catapult
Dervish
Clint
Hermes II
Hunchback
Panther
Commando
Spider
Quickdraw

I think / hope we will continue to see more and more Mechs show up as time goes on. I also believe there are already more Mechs available in the current version of the game then we have been made aware of...

Hmm...

Sorry OP but I think your hopes of Mech diversity are misguided.

While I completely acknowledge there is a wider diversity of Mechs than the iconic ones, it needs to also be acknowledged that these same Mechs define the backbone of Mech stable.

Their exclusion and or taking a backseat to lesser known Mechs is the equivalent of making a Pacific WWII air-combat simulation and deciding to omit / down-play the Zero, Hellcat and Lightning simply because they appear in every Pacific air-combat sim...

Long and short... You don't go to a steak joint and order a fish sandwich. :P

For the same reasons noted above... I stake my highly tarnished reputation that your Madcat will be the first Clan Mech to hit the store once the necessary time-line is reached!

Even the Raven is that era, it's first release in 3028 was in the Capellan Confederation Handbook. This was before the timeline really started moving forward (with the 4th Succession War). At the time, the Timeline was pretty much immobile.

I have no problem with the mechs already chosen for the game. Yes they have been in other games, but they are Iconic and are all pretty common designs. So they should be in game. After saying that i should also like to state that i to would love to see some rarely used designs. For example i would love to see the Crockett. I like this mech. I want the Crockett not the d.c knock-off the katana.

Iconic and Classic designs are tried and true. People are familiar with them and like them.

Bringing in unfamiliar chassis does breathe life into the game, but may go un-utilized due to people generally shunning what they are not comfortable with.

I know that people are really hoping for the Black Knight, but after hearing some rumours about heat from the Friends and Families beta I suspect that the Black Knight will be a disappointment to people who first ran into in MW4.

Where are these rumors coming from if I might ask?

Personally the mech choices so far are perfect. They define the series and will capture the old fans. The game hasn't even been released yet lets just wait to see what happens. The more popular it becomes, the more mechs we will see
