so...I just found out about this game...as a 41 year old guy... frankly, I find it a little bizarre to be as excited about this game as I am. And I am *really* excited about this.

One of the things I wonder about, though, is how much tweaking and tinkering will we eventually be able to do to our mechs...cause for me, I had almost as much fun doing that as actually hitting the battlefield.

I'm and work and my search fu is weak but some quick thoughts would be welcome. I mean...I can't believe i'm the only one who obsessed about their configurations...

Of course you are not the only one obsessed with that old man. (I am only 40). ^_^
There have bany discussions about the mechlab and speculated uses/abuses thereof.

If you haven't seen it yet, check out the MechLab blog:
http://mwomercs.com/...blog-6-mechlab/

And I can't find the specific post, but Garth did say that the MechLab was almost as expansive as the game itself, so have no fear.

Welcome! You aren't the only one just as excited. The reaction is natural we assure you. However don't expect the feeling to wear off soon.

and then don't pet the nubnub...it bites

I'm guessing it's going to be about the ingame store - although I'm hoping more for it to be Merc Month.

Can't wait to see what they do with this game - it's been WAY too long since we had any MechWarrior!

I'd wager Tinkering with configs is probably going to be a major pastime for many of us.

Welcome to the forums.

Cheers.

You geezers should be thrilled to hear that this game is being developed in the Cry3 physics engine: that means we're finally making the jump from MechWarrior-x286 to Mechwarrior-x386! WooHoo! I hear you can even use 2MB of RAM... by default!

Personally, I'm partial to the 12-gauge with rocksalt shells. Who needs phones when you can deliver that kind of pain?

I tried reloading birdshot with rocksalt for 12-gauge 2.75" shells. It presents a problem. Rock salt is much less dense than lead, so you have to up the powder charge or the wad won't even clear the barrel. Black powder muzzleloaders are the way to go for rock salt. Use normal charge and primer, but load the rock salt EQUAL to the weight in grains you'd normally use for shot. You just cannot fit enough rock salt in with the right amount of smokeless in 2.75 or even 3" shells to more than a few yards. Split the breech on a nice old Remington 58 sportsman trying.

Bleh. I'm still stuck with a 8088. At least the Ambervision monitor makes the proposed HUD really come to life!
