See, this is where your constant eye-rolling gets confusing, because your rolling your eyes at "English vs Vikings you know" seems to imply that you thought they got creamed by the English longbow.

The Viking has awesome looks, and the VKG-2G variant pretty nice too.

In regards to the area when "Danelaw" held sway, that were my family has traced it's origins back to. The area of England that the Danes had in their control. :)

Yes they were until Alfred the Great "King of the Anglo-Saxons" came along and not only successfully defended his kingdom against the Viking attempt at conquest, but forced them to withdraw back to the continent.

Speaking of mechs and Vikings...

The Berserker. I love it.

A fire-breathing, hatchet-wielding assault mech of Doom.

Hah. Hahaha. Hahahahahaha!

Oh, wait, you're serious...

You are of course speaking of Alfred the Great, who burnt the little cakes, and later made a peace with the Vikings that let them stay, and keep territory, yes?

Yes, some of the Vikings left. Many remained in Northumbria.

Later on Knut the Great held Denmark, Norway AND England.

It was only with the Normans (who were Viking decendants) that the Anglo-Saxons got peace from Scandinavian raids.

EDIT: It seems the name C N U T is forbidden. hence the Scandinavian spelling.

This is true, but my point was that the kingdom of Wessex in southern England was never conquered by a Viking army, not even C N U T. He came to a negotiated settlement with King Edmund and they made peace, dividing the kingdom between them. The entire south was kept by the English king, along with London. But Edmund died, C N U T more or less inherited it and was left as king of all England. He then turned into an earldom and gave it to his English henchman Godwin. :)

I think The Vikings visited Swansea Bay at some point, I think they might have even settled it. :P

Well the Vikings are supposed to be the first Europeans to reach North America too. So Vikings better than English.

Gods that is an ugly mech. It looks like something a Stalker pooed out.

You can totally make a Stalker into a Viking in this game, as the Stalker has 4 missile hardpoints (LRM 15s and SRM 6s).

Requires more horned helmets and melee? :D

Also, I wonder how he fares against the Longbow, Vikings vs English you know.

Pretty much with a name like Viking, you'd expect it to be a mid to close range brawler, not the LRM monster that it is. Especially for an Assault weight mech.

You'd think it would at least have arms...

I'll take a Stalker over a Viking any day, the Stalker has a smaller profile, better looks and no taint of Blake in its design.

Though I will admit those MG's on the knees are kinda weird...

At one point he was forced to make peace with them, and possibly also pay them to leave his kingdom. If he hadn't been able to pay them off after Wilton, he might well have ended up another footnote in history.

Indeed, one could argue that the Danes being greedy saved Wessex. But then, greed and Danes is something of a running joke up here (or at least it was, for a long while).

EDIT: An amusing fact is that if Alfred hadn't escaped the Danes' attack on Chippenham in 878, history might have been very different.

It really doesn't make any sense whatsoever, but the engineers were obviously on some futurecrack when they made it in the first place.
