sorry if this is not appropriate. so I was turned onto MWLL after reading about it here. I am a diehard mechwarrior/battletech fan ever since the days of TT. I have found MWLL to be quite an amazing MW experience, and I wonder how people think MWO will match up against it?

will MWO ever have vehicles/aerospace/battle armors?

if it does not, then what is the attractiveness of MWO over MWLL? it better be a hell of a lot better in terms of the gameplay and graphics, but if if its, ill have to wonder if my PC will even support it?

either way, I find there is a distinct possibility that I will be sticking with MWLL. I hope that does not happen, I want MWO to be my wildest mech fantasy come true.

Personally, the respawn mechanic turns me off of most current shooters, including mwll. You feel the weight of your actions a great deal more when a mistake means your match is over.

MWLL was a completely free mod made by a small team of people, using an engine that isn't suitable for simulating mechs.
MWO is a microtransaction game made by a gaming production company, using an engine perfectly suited for its purpose.

This thread shouldn't be here.

MW:LL is quite a good game, and I have thought about sticking with it too.

I'm a diehard Mech jockey, but enjoy the varied battles that come from the other types of assets that players can bring to the field, even if that one pesky BA just won't die.

The appeal of MWO is going to be the persistent nature of it, and more organized roles in combat.

Why say that about the engines? The engines for each game aren't that much different.

I'm sorry, did you not see how sexy that Catapult is? You know, the screenies released recently? That pretty much settles it right there.

For what MWLL offers, it's an amazing undertaking.

That being said, I haven't played it (but have watched many hours of footage). At the moment, when I get back into MW, it will be MWO that heralds me back into the seat of my war machine.

If this game is as good as I think it's going to be, I can easily see myself spending 3000+ hours in it and dropping money on a decent basis.

I've never played MW:LL. So I really can't put in my 2 cents about it. I've been curious about it though. But now that MWO is on its way...to hell with MW:LL.

I've played MWLL, and it is awesome in what it is! Beautiful, brutal, unforgiving and fast paced.

It is missing that element of caution and loss, economy and tactical "need" that I think the MWO methodology will offer, as well as the semi-persistent metagame.

Really MWLL is a very nice, uber fancy sim/shooter, the ramifications for failure are few, if any, respawns cost little more than what you pay for repairs. Teamwork is negligible, the interface is a pain, control configs, also a pain. If it sounds like I'm complaining... sorry, I am still stunned in what it does offer.

So what MWO needs (IMO) is really beta ,get launched, and start adding in nuance stuff like armor, elementals, infantry, VTOLS and AERO all the way to orbital strikes and nukes if we really want the pain.

The question is.. How much of that do we actually want to be in control of?.. I want to be a mechwarrior not an aerospace pilot. Let's hope that those additions are just that, and don't distract from the huge list of things that need to be right with the core experience.

MWLL is a too sweet cupcake, buried under a ton of raw bleached sugar.. I want MWO to be 24 oz blazing hot, barbecued Steak with the trimmings, but not so many trimmings that we lose the steak.

MW:LL is a great game and you get to pilot more then just Mechs. I think the steep learning curve and the lack of a 3rd person view turns a lot of people off. Getting to better(bigger) mechs in the game requires you do damage you don't just get to buy an atlas. Most people probably don't get to pilot Assault Mechs regularly till they log hours of game time. (another turn-off for some). Personally I love it but I cant wait for MWO. I think the ability to have a stable of Mechs and a pilot that you can grow will set MWO apart from MW:LL. For some reason I think MWO will be easier too, will see.

Content will be MWO's money generator, but content cannot segregate.

When new Mechs/Tech come, everyone has access to it. When new game modes are made, everyone has access to it. Whatever happens, we can't segregate people by content.

BUT there is such a thing as over proliferation of content. When you flood the game with content too soon, too fast, people regret purchases, lose a sense of value and ownership and become disillusioned to make further purchases.

Just because they CAN add something, doesn't mean they should; if PGI catered constantly to whims, the quality of the game could suffer for it. As a community we can tell PGI what we're interested in, and if the devs deem it valuable and worthwhile, we might get it in game.

The frequent updates that the game can support should help promote a solid core gameplay experience if PGI keeps on bug patrol.

MWLL is awesome, but is slow to develop and has innate problems with mechanics because of code. I like the multi approach with mechs, ba, aero, and tanks. however there are so many bugs throughout. what MWLL needs in time to grow and be refined, though MWO's paid Dev team will provide great if not better content much faster.

I see MWLL getting benched :/

I enjoy MWLL, but it's more of a jump in get a few kills sort of thing. Once a battle is done there are no rewards or consequences, you just start another match. I like the idea of getting experience and cash after a match to improve my mech. Gives me something to work toward.

And I agree with those who said that MWLL is just a mod and therefore has limitations. You can't disengage the camera from aiming reticule, so no Track IR or looking around in the cockpit. The controls are very hard to configure and there's no sensitivity curves for joysticks, so aiming is very difficult. It looks amazing for what it is, but it's no MWO.

Where'd you think PGI got the idea to use CryEngine 3? Only difference is MWO devs have access to the source code.

The controls are not hard to configure at all. Lot of misinformation in here. I'll admit it is buggy to a degree, but really there are AAA games that I have paid plenty for that have worse and more frequent bugs. Also there are more game modes than Team Solaris Arena(Team Deathmatch) that don't include respawns. There is also a healthy amount of orginized play. Like a huge event coming up on May 12th, that will be a test run of the Planetary League that community members have been planning.

So while you all are foaming at the mouth for something that doesn't exist yet, we are all having a blast with a game that may actually be better in the long run.

Me personally, as a diehard MWLLer, see them going along just fine side by side. Nothing beats flying around in a hover and taking names. I will happily play both. :D :D :D

As has been said, one is a mod made by a small team of dedicated fans - while the other is a F2P AAA game that is made by a company of well trained professionals. I haven't played either yet (obviously!) but it doesn't take a genius to figure out which one will be the better.

Love MWLL, and I'm excited about MW:O

They are different animals based on the same Universe and I see both doing well side by side as each will offer different incarnations of our beloved MechWarrior.
