In one of the vids it was show that arms can and will be blown off if enough damage is dealt but... unlike other past Mechwarrior games where if you lost a leg or both and it just blacked them out and you lost movement and or just lipped, will we actually be able to lose and or take off enemy mech legs? If i critically hit and mangle a mech's leg with an AC/20 or any other high powerd weapon like a PPC or 2 ;) will I be able to take a leg completely off and maybe topple a mech? And if so I hope that it isnt always an instant kill and the enemy mech goes critical. I would hope that they make the game mechanics so that if you do lose a single leg that you may still be able to (MAYBE) stand on one and or jump if you still have JJs. I can see the piloting become difficult at this point as you would have to fight to stay up but I think this would give a new area of realism to the game. And if you do topple, and land so that you can still shoot a weapon of 2, Id vote for this as well. At least you can go out like a warrior as the enemy picks you apart as you lay helpless lol.

Any thoughts?

Reminds me of the MechWarrior 2 Mercs system.

Support only on the condition that you're allowed to self-destruct the 'Mech. Otherwise, on a 3-Mech dropship match, I'd just leg all the opponents so that they can't fight at all, then get my lances to kill them one by respawned one, while the 11 team mates look on, unable to do anything useful.

For regardless of how good a pilot you are, you're not surviving a 12 on 1.

I support it, If a section of your Mech is taken out then it's taken out.

This would really only work with lots of cover like an urban environment, in the open those legged guys would still be a threat.

That being said I'd probably do the same thing if I have to pick an IS faction rather than clan at the start. Leg & leave if it makes tactical sense and will result in a greater chance of victory. If I can get the enemy to suicide because they are legged and helpless I have saved my ammo that can be used against greater threats.

I think the solution they'll likely opt with is that a leg being destroyed will cause it to limp. If your other leg is destroyed then you will fall over and be taken out.

In Community Q & A 5, they said:

Quote

[DAVID] To destroy a BattleMech, you have to destroy the head, destroy the center torso, or destroy both legs. You, the MechWarrior, can never die.

So having both of your legs destroyed will put your mech out of commission.

This is a mechanic that MW4 got right (in my opinion). In past MW games, it was far too easy to just leg someone and be done with it. They topple and look at the sky (or eat dirt); either way, no return fire. You lose one leg, you're crippled and hobbling along at 15 kph. But, you can still put up a fight, especially if you're in a 'Mech that has swift torso maneuvering. Both legs though and then yes, certain destruction. I'm still curious if side torso destruction will result in the corresponding arm getting shredded as well.

I remember they altered leg damage 'taken' with a patch during the mech 3 days because legging was getting out of control/silly.
The introduced patch balanced or reduced leg damage making leg kills far less likely. This was a good idea because blasting off a leg essentially toasted the mech and was a cheap way to get a kill IMO. (expletive deleted before post)
During the late days of mech 3, taking into account the lag shields, one wouldnt even bother with the legs because the patch gave them added strength/reduced damage.

I hope damage across a leg/legs is handled well in this incarnation.

Legging is a lame way to get kills. Yeah you heard me right.

agreed to both, this is generally going for realism so why not give people a chance to go on without a limb? certain designs could probably crawl if needed, which I would pay to see.

Lame my backside. Its a valid tactic, one that assault class and heavy class mechs MUST use if they are to keep those light/scout class mechs from swarming them in a dizzing dance of death. I for one intend to rip legs off ANYTHING lighter than me that ISNT on my side. I say: if you can armor it, it gets shot at. AND if you dont want your legs taken off up the armor.

Ok, I really want to see an UrbanMech crawl, now. :D

In another thread specifically on legging, I recall there being a mention of the legs on MWO being significantly harder to hit in this iteration, since your weapons are no longer pinpoint accurate, and since your lasers now need to be held on to hit.

So if you want to leg a light, it won't be easy. You'd need an Autocannon or Gauss since missiles spread damage and have a travel time, and lasers need to be held on the location. And even so, you'd have to deal with the Autocannon travel time and convergence... which will entail focusing your reticle on a fast moving 'Mech leg for 3-5 seconds. If you can do that, I think even complete legging can be justified.

But only if the legged pilots can opt to eject when on the ground.

PGI stated in Q&A5 the only methods to destroy another mech are: http://mwomercs.com/...5-mech-warfare/
Destroy the Head
Destroy the Torso
Destroy both Legs

It remains to be seen what happens to a mech when only one leg is destroyed. Obviously your still in the game, but who knows how much mobility you will have at that point. I'm guessing it will probably be the limp situation. Limited to walk speed only, and the loss of any components in that leg (heat sinks, etc..).

Legging is not against Zell for all clans. Mine follows that you bring down a mech by any means necessary to produce the most salvage. Legging is a viable option.
