I Want To Help... One Way or the Other

Since I'm an MW:O nublet of sorts, and I can't be on much, I would not be helpful as a moderator. I'm a networking guy - not a software guy - so I can't do all those cool pics/videos/memes/Company Logos. But, I do have a firm grasp on reality; so I'd like to be the resident psychotherapist.
Do I have a Doctorate? No. Masters? Bachelor... OK, I have no formal training whatsoever. What I can do though, is grab you by the shoulders and shake you violently - until you pass out or admit that THIS ISN'T REAL!!! Whichever comes first.
Seriously. Watching the aftermath of Bryan's "No Canon Names or Units" announcement (which shall now be referred to as The Great Forum War of 3049), I am honestly worried about some of you. This is a video game based on a table-top RPG, which itself was loosely based on D&D. It is not worth some of the anger I have been reading first of all; and second, I don't know how many times I have read "...in real life..." in reference to the lore on this site. Immersion is good, total immersion is not healthy.
Wanna know what's real? My wife has been out of work for over a year. I got laid-off in January right after a pretty serious health scare. If I don't get a decent job soon, we may have to live with my In-Laws. Who wants to offer me Batchall on that? I might lose my house, but let me worry about you not being able to call yourself a Smoke Jaguar or Northwind Highlander...
If you feel yourself getting a little edgy about some of this crap, or perhaps that you may be taking it a bit too seriously, give me a PM. We can talk over some virtual Doritos and Code Red - maybe bring you back down a little. I am going to make it through my IRL situation, and probably come out on the better end of the stick for it. So I think we can all get through our MW:O "crisis"... Or should I say Crysis? Get it?
Please try and keep this thing in proper perspective.
Peace, Love and Continuous PPC Fire,
St00bert

Well here's a thing not to sound like an *** but. If you are having a hard time it would be wise to stop paying for unnecccary things like...oh i dont know... your internet...that being said i don't find your story as credible as you make it sound. Keep your personal life out of it. Cause your not the only one.

I have been on "The Angry Boat", it is not a healthy place to be. If you are that angry on an online forum about a fun video game, how are you in the real world? I just don't want to see people get all bent out of shape over something this trivial, and thought maybe a dose of real reality might help peeps get a bit of a grip.
Really just aiming to help. Wanna keep it fun, I miss the MW games, and don't want to see this go south before it even gets started.

Get a normal job flippin burgers and go from there..... Start walkin around gettin' apps You can still request paper apps from stores and burger joints. What you want to do and what you have to do are two different things. As my ROTC instructor always said "If you wanna get somewhere in life you have to get off your *** to do it"

I REALLY hope that you are joking about this... the internet, along with networking sites like linkedin are the single most helpful tools in getting a new job, especially one in technology. these days you will find yourself having to send out DOZENS of applications before you get a single reply, and that simply isn't feasible without the internet
also... a job flipping burgers wont even pay the bills, try 2 or 3 jobs flipping burgers.
addendum: also, despite my own good economic fortunes, posts like this make me see why others of my generation house so much resentment of our parents generation. they told us nonstop to go to college or we would be flipping burgers for the rest of our lives... and then call us spoiled and entitled when we cant find a job in our chosen field and don't want to flip burgers (you know, because that job was held up as WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU FAIL IN LIFE).

Then do 2 to 3 jobs flippin burgers. I have no remorse there are people in worst spots that dont whine about it. They do what they need to do to survive. You shouldn't be an exception. Reason being i didnt have a house for 2 years and i was 15 and my mom had died so i had to flip burgers to get my own place. she was the ONLY family i had left. now ive got a house and am going to collage while working at an oil feild working machinery. because of a paper application. Yet you dont see me whining about how life's not fair. Build a bridge.

*** does this have to do w/ the OP...
maybe you are volunteering to be the first 'patient' LOL.
OP reminds me of a book I read about some bar where the galaxies cast offs and hard luck cases all end up. After a few nights/weeks they are all better simply by being around people that care. Its not as lame as it sounds...
I went and found it, its called 'The Callahan Chronicles' by Spider Robinson.
+1 thread.

Where do people have the time to have hobbies or be passionate about something? Some of these people you're talking to have been into battletech for decades now, plenty of time to get familiar with it even at a slow pace. I can't imagine you would think your intended audience would take your 'message' seriously when you essentially attack them for knowing "too much" about battletech asking them the hypothetical "how do you have that kind of time?" That's not how you suggest someone is taking an issue too seriously in an argument, that's a way to imply that someone is living their life the wrong way.

I would suggest taking a deep breathe , counting to 10, rereading both the Code of Conduct and posting Etiquette before making off topic posts, or derogatory comments.
Let's keep it civil lads and lasses.
Cheers.

Understandably life has not been easy for you, and like St00burt, I hope for the best and congratulations on moving forward. However, St00bert is responding to his situation with compassion, he is reaching out to a community he feels needs some perspective and help, and even though I disagree with his language, I respect that responds to a tough situation by trying to contribute. However, what you're doing is lashing out against perceived weakness on his part, simply because you triumphed over your struggles alone. Do you feel that anyone that reaches out is whining, that we all have to struggle through life alone because you had to struggle alone? you have years ahead of you kid, don't burn bridges by seeing asking for help and compassion as a weakness.
