I was thinking that after the game comes out and we start getting new mechs released as updates or DLC that it might be kinda cool to have them come out as group installments.

Example: The Ostmann Industries Pack. You hop on after a month of not seeing new mechs and suddenly they've added the Ostsol, Ostroc, Ostscout, and Ostwar all at once with press release data singing the praises (or lack there of) of these new mechs to be added to the forces of the innersphere.
Or the Urban Combat Pack. Similar situation, but this time it's an Enforcer. King Crab, and Urbanmech that all come out under overwhelming fanfare and applause.
Or the Team Banzai Pack. Close Combat has finally been implemented and to celebrate the devs have released the Hatchetman and the Axman upon us all!

Or alternatively, every couple of weeks you get these mechs individually as they're made. There's less waiting time, but also whenever they come out there will be a small rush of players swiping them up and there's less chance on each release of there being something that you've been waiting for.

I'm just wondering which of these people would prefer. Personally I wouldn't mind a little mix of both and I'm going to edit the poll question now to have that as an option.

Individual 'Mechs and packs to be released slowly, common 'Mechs players get for free, rare 'Mechs players have to pay for, which theoretically means that the rare 'Mechs are rarer to see on the battlefield.

I think OhGilPin's idea makes sense in regards to common versus rare 'mechs.

It makes sense, but from a F2P perspective, it could hurt the reputation of the game. ;)

I dont mind premium mechs IF they are ballanced (only have -75% repair costs for example)

Sure, but the developers have to make money somehow. I have no idea how they intend to do that other than to charge for certain content, and it's only natural to assume that 'mechs are going to be a part of that.

I have to wonder if they're going to take a Team Fortress 2 approach to this, even though TF2 wasn't F2P from the start.

Premium mechs don't even need to have a stat advantage. They could just be rare designs. So you pay to look different, but players can use a free mech and do basically the same role.

Thats how p2w start with things like that premium stuff i'm heppy that devs will not do stuff like that, i only support is to buy more mech storage skins for mechs, more c bills/exp increase per match... this like this that wont impact game, i guess you are worried about success of game but best f2p game don't follow premium stuff (lol, dota 2...)

I would SO shell-out for a Top Hat and Monocle for an Urbanmech. Just saying.

that. is. not. balanced. Also, get off the Pay 2 win model. This game DOES NOT SUPPORT that, the devs said so. Premium mechs are a myth given what the devs said. Only fluff can be bought with real money...

Hmm I managed to derail this thread in the first post my bad...

I don't see how paying for certain 'Mechs would make it pay to win, I would still purchase my favourite 'Mechs even if they were inferior to the free 'Mechs that everybody gets their hands on.

Individual mechs should be released one at a time.

Although, I would still like a "Quadmech Invasion!!" pack as DLC, with Tarantula/Scorpion/Barghest/Goliath.

Very simple. Making ANY mech useable by only means of paid monies to the company then, that starts the Pay 2 Win situation, which again, PGI devs have said, will NOT happen. Again, only FLUFF stuff can be bought outright, mech bay space, paint schemes and the like, but no weapons or mechs will ever be a MT situation, they are all either salvage or in game c-bill buyable.

As soon as you have a design that has a different configuration available as 'Premium' in the Marketplace, kids will start yelling "Pay to Win." Even if the standard configuration can be replicated via 'Mechlab on another chassis, such as Grasshopper vs. Guillotine.

I think the key to avoiding the "pay 2 win" accusations is to set it up so that the "premium" content can be acquired without paying. Using Team Fortress 2 as an example.... you *can* pay for the rare weapons if you choose to, but if you're patient it's possible that you may acquire that weapon in their random drop system.

Also, like it or not, there has to be some incentive to spend money, and if that means giving a slight edge on the battlefield then so be it.

Something else. ANY/ALL mech designs should <not counting uniques piloted by canon NPC's> be ONLY achievable in MechLab else not at all.

the incentives are things like faster XP gains, fancy paint jobs, extra mech space in your bay, fluff stuff like that, maybe this urban mech monicol and tophat i keep seeing mentioned....

It would be nice to have a constant trickle of new content that way it feels that the universe is actually changing. But at the same time it would be nice to get a whole bunch of new content at once like a birthday present. I'm torn. I guess I would want it to follow the timeline like they are planning so it feels like we are actually living in the BT/Mechwarrior universe.

I vote that Clan 'Mechs only be available to those who pay for them. With cash.
