Note: AMD users Read Below the Nvidia Stuff.

Issue/Bug: Really Low FPS and Poor Game Performance while in battle.

Cause: The game isn't threading properly, so its a threading code issue. MWO is doing all the same calculations/work using 2 or less cores and mirroring the work to the other available cores, thus causing it to return a ton of errors and Slowing down the game allot....

Solution: Forcing the game to use more cores with Forced threading options. After you should get 30-60fps which is playable!

IMPORTANT NOTE: This Fix requires a computer with HyperTransport(AMD) or Hyper-Threading(Intel);
And It will NOT work for an older computer with a Front-Side-Bus which is outdated.

System Requirements -> Make sure you Meet or Beat the system requirements for the CryEngine3(which is what MWO is using): http://mwomercs.com/...re-requirments/

Nvidia Users:
1. First Make Sure your Drivers are fully Up to date: http://www.geforce.com/drivers
Here's my Specs for a Comparison:

And My Driver version is: 306.97

2. Then Use the Settings in this Screenshot below to fix the current threading issue.
And Make Sure you Apply it before closing the Control Panel and Running MWO.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
AMD Users:
Note: Because AMD has yet to include this option in their Control Panel you have to use 3rd party Software. SO USE AT YOUR OWN RISK...

AMD FX CPU Users Note: As AMD has messed up royally with these CPU's there isn't much to do to get any more performance out of them and this fix appears to not work with them either... This is not just directed to this game it's for all games. If you do a simple search on google and a game you want to play with your FX CPU you will see that for every game you search it has poor performance with these CPU's....

Steps:

1. Download and install this ATi Tray Tools: http://downloads.gur...oad.php?det=733

2. Run it then right-click on the try icon and enable Forced Multi-threading from here: "Tweaks->Advanced Tweaks" Its under the Multi-Thread Support drop-down menu.

3. Leave the min at 0. And Set the Max Accordingly:
  • For Dual Core users Set the Max to 2
  • For Tri-Core users Set the Max to 3
  • For Quad Core users Set the Max to 4
  • For 6 Core users Set the Max to 6
  • For 8 Core users Set the Max to 8
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Enjoy and Please Vote above and Post a reply below.

Note: If this Didn't help you then Please Post your Full Specs Below.

@ALL: I have Sent in a Support Ticket about this issue to Inform the Devs of where The Poor performance is coming from. So Hopefully it will be resolved in the next patch. ;)

So we shouldnt use this if we are only running a dual core? Or are dual cores doing the same thing, just all crammed on a single core?

This will benefit any CPU that has 2 or more cores.

octocore here ... this does indeed help a bit ...now my frames do not drop below 30

Six cores. Did not improve performance by any noticeable amount.

If your using AMD's FX series then yes it won't work because AMD Messed up BIG TIME on their FX Series. Even I a Long time AMD fan am soon switching to Intel if AMD doesn't get their act together...

@Cel: You require More Ram because only having 4GB of ram isn't enough anymore especially for a 6Core CPU. So you should get up to 8GB or Better 12GB(2GB per Core). ;)

Note: Sorry AMD and Intel Players you will have to get a 3rd Party Application to force the proper threading.

Note: If this Didn't help you then Please Post your Full Specs Below.

Any idea what 3rd party application would be able to 'force the proper threading' for my two AMD GPU's? (2 x HD6870's).

You poll lacks options. Here's mine:

I have an NVIDIA card, I don't have any issues with frame rates. Threaded optimisation is set to "Use global default (Auto)".

I have previously turn "Ambient Occlusion" off though as this was causing problems with Forest Colony several patches ago.

Seems to work...good job.

My Dual Core system seemed to handle things a bit better I think. It was only one match, but there seems to be a tad bit higher FPS with spikes that werent distracting.

I'll edit or re-post after I get a chance to play through several maps over the course of a day

Change it to ON and see if it helps you. Ya I have the Ambient Occlusion off too because it doesn't work well with this game.

Except it's not going to help the frame rate. My friend has 16GB with a similar setup and he still lags just as bad in this game since the patch.

I Can't speak for him. But In your case you will see a big overall performance boost with more ram. You never know until you try! ;)

Before: hovering around 20 fps, usually lower during mid-battle. Rare instances where the frame rate goes "CLUNK!"
After: no noticeable change.

Edit: had one of "those" moments, see later post.

I don't know any off hand because I never needed them... So you might have to go digging on google to find one. Let me know if you do.

Are your video-card drivers Up to date? Also make sure you laptop is not sitting on a soft surface as you could be blocking the air vents.

I went digging on Google before I posted ;)

Will continue to do so in case I hit gold. I tend to get between 20 and 35 FPS in combat, up to 55-60 on occasion already but I'd sure love to boost it up and smooth it out some more before PGI come along with DirectX11 and more performance tweaks, so I appreciate the efforts of anyone with a possible solution to some of the issues we're facing, even if they're not my holy grail.
