As media content gets pushed out I can't help but to become super-excited for the beta and release days to come, but all this will be nothing for international fans if there are no servers outside of North America to play on.

I currently live in Singapore and will suffer around 300 ping if I played on American servers, this creates a hard limit on the enjoyability of the game and performance of a player.

Roles such as scouting and long range sniping becomes harder to play with high ping and will force players to choose short-medium range "tanky" mechs for better survivability. Further, nobody's going to want to have a lagger on their team. As it stands, there are lots of games with servers that will kick if your ping exceeds 100 and I reckon teams will quit and retry if they end up with a lagger while being matched.

[TL;DR] So I'd like to know if International servers will be rolled out, and if so, where? [/TL;DR] If not, why not? You'll lose quite a few players who have nothing better to do with their money than buy pink paint for their mechs.

As far as my experience tells me playing online in the South-East Asian region, servers in:

Perth, Malaysia, Singapore can serve the region effectively and has a player base that speaks and understands English. (10 ping average from Singapore)

Thailand, Taiwan, Korea, Japan boasts good bandwidth too - but if you don't speak the language then you'll be lonewolfing without communication. (50-100 ping average from Singapore)

NZ, Non-Perth Aussie servers play poorly outside of their region. Lag connecting to those outside of the country is comparable to North American servers. (300 ping average from Singapore)

That may be so, but given a choice my friends will not play a game that's laggy.

Although I'm a huge fan, the group I play with are not super obsessive hard-core mech-warrior junkies, if the game is too laggy they'll want to play something else and I think that would be a waste for both the devs and us players.

There are probably less Mech Warrior fans in this region than there are in North America but newcomers will still be won over by the cool robot-fighting aspect of the game. Players here are quite picky though, if there are no good servers out there to play in then this game will not take off in this region.

A ping of 200-300 will likely be fine for this type of game, its not a twitch action bunny hopping jetpack flaring game.

He was probably referring to Tribes. And although he is correct to a point; I'd like to see someone in an Atlas consistently hit a Jenner at full speed with a ping of 200-300.

Not exactly new-player friendly.

Both actually :P.

Light mechs will be no more of a problem in MWO than they have been in the past.

I remember playing MW3 with 700+ ping when I was young, it was near unplayable... no doubt things are different now but I hope I won't be forced into a role because of lag.

Right now the Scout/Harasser role is the most attractive to me, if that can be played effectively without lag then I guess that's acceptable.

700Ping would be a bit problematic that i grant you, 300 or less would be playable IMO

Playable perhaps, but not ideal.

Fact of the internet and online gaming.
You learn to deal with it.

Do you? Or do you demand something better? I hope you're not suggesting that PGI should strive to underachieve in this regard.

Not everything is down to PGI to solve for you.

They can't alter your location, your connection, your ISP's server banks, Your ISP's policies on traffic routing.

One thing PGI should certainly not do, is shrink the player base by separating it down into regions.

Lag is a factor in any online game, even local servers do not produce lag free gaming.

That's not the best course of action for a developer to take in a competitive market. It certainly won't win over new players who have lots of other games to choose from.

They have said that there might be region lock when the game first comes out.

PGI should look for server farms in central Africa, so everyone has the same bad ping and no reason to complain.

Would be more fair if they'd built one on the moon.

Sarcasm mode terminated.

Really, kids?

No information on server locations or details other than what you speculate here.

Pursang, you are in BC. You will most likely have one of the best pings of all of us; stop complaining and poking the trolls!
