Frankly, this wasn't anything like I expected or wanted. I have no issues with free-to-play MMOs at all, but this really should have been a side-project, not replacing the MechWarrior that was originally announced; the one with the gorgeous, lush graphics; the one with the epic-sounding single-player campaign; the one with kick-**** gameplay.

I'm not saying this will be bad. I will be hoping to play this from launch day for a while. But I really feel that, despite the issues with getting a publisher, Piranha should have kept the game alive, should have made this as a separate game unrelated to the original reboot.

I'm disappointed. But I'm also hopeful that this will be a good game but, more importantly to me, this game will be a huge success and give the old version another lease of life. Because, to me, the original just had so much going for it. I wish you all the best, developers, and I hope you can prove all of my doubts wrong.

I think that's what they wanted to do; but what with the lack of publisher interest and the economy, they didn't have the payola to do it.

Agreed. A lot is being abandoned just so they can push this out, and I can't say I'm 100% cool with that. I've been watching this ship since it was mere blueprints, and I'll likely be here to see its final voyage, but this is not at all what I was hoping for.

To be fair, this was the only way they could do something with the franchise, so choosing between vaporware and F2P is a no-brainer, but even so... it's a bit unsettling.

What exactly was omitted to push this game out? and I thought free to play was the new movement of gaming in the coming decade because it can actually be even more lucrative?

They had no other choice, though. The engine got only better and that video was just pre-rendered.

Look at the positives:
You will get to play as who you choose instead of all Davion (even though he had the same name as me).
The balance of assault vs light will be (hopefully) finally fixed after all those years.
You will be able to play as Clans, which would be non-existent if they stayed true to the old year of the original game.
We will see officially redrawn veery old mechs which would otherwise look as bad as 30 years ago (bad is a wrong word for it).

Not sure what you were looking for, but being familiar with MW and MMOs I can tell you that what we have so far is great! As for all of the other things you have mentioned it is premature to judge graphics and game play without having ever played the game...play the game first, then decide whether you are disappointed or not.

Piranha had to subjectively look at the cost and expense and relatively smaller return on investment that the Mechwarrior niche is, and then operate within their expenses. I, too, would have loved a fully fledged game, but the expense and time for that project was beyond PGI's desired scope.

I thinkt he MVP + Incremental Updates is actually a great methodology for success in this game. Yeah, the game doesn't come out fully featured, but if PGI has proven one thing, it is very in tune with its community, and can provide us more timely content and patching with the modular natureof updating.

When forced to choose, I think PGI is taking the best cource of action. A PGI rep had tweeted a while back that a Triple AAA game can cost upwards of $20-50million to develop. In order to make that kind of money back on a F2P market, they may never see a Return on Investment in due time.

Assuming, instead, MWO cost about $5-10M for just a MP component, PGI can better gauge the response of the game and play by ear when it comes to expanding the content and continuing development.

I'm happy they're making MWO. While it'd be awesome to see MechWarrior 3015 as well, it's not too big of a deal for me. I'll miss not having a single player, but there's a possibility that the devs will eventually add a Player vs. AI mode in the future or more objective-based scenarios. With MWO, I can experience the BattleTech universe over the years.

Heck, Im more exited about MWO than I would some single player game I would play for 10 hours then promptly forget existed.

Multiplayer >>>> Single player any day of the week.

If you were expecting a single player game, I can see why you are disappointed. However I always played MW for multiplayer, so that fact that MWO is focused on multiplayer primarily is awesome..awesome to the max. Switching to F2P was really the best move for players like me (even though initially I gagged when I heard it was f2p). To each their own.

Hmm yea necro....

I was wondering why there were still people voicing these concerns.
I think everyone like this either got over it or have moved on.

LOL, OP, youmight not have any problems with F2P model, but I sure as hell do...having played WoT for 4000 some battles, It really made me have a deep hatred for the clueless playerbase of the F2P game model. The more I watch WoT, the less enthused I become about MWO, knowing that the F2P model will bring the smae dumb@$$ tards to this game which will in the end ruin this game as well...for me atleast...no matter how awesome it might be.....losing a battle is one thing, watching a game go south because I happened to draw the shortbus team, who doesnt even know the name of the game they are playing, much less any game taktiks, that is another....
