Mechwarrior 4 had the best HUD definitely. It was just so easy to know what was going on without having to really look. But MW3's cockpit looked most realistic.

This is what I meant by the MW3 HUD looking the most like modern HUD's. I know I posted an F-16 image, which uses pitch and bearing bars like MW4, but MW4 uses thick and opaque lines and indicators.

I think if Piranha was to add a little more of the cockpit (like Mechwarrior 3) to its hud then it would be so much better

I really want to love the MWO HUD, but I just don't like it. :D

The damage indicators are hard to read at a glance, the thick yellow lines look like they were painted on your helmet as oppose to projected on your helmet, the top and bottom black bars don't seem to serve a purpose, and the left side looks so... empty.

;)

MWO is still in development though, and I'm sure we will have options.

I honestly preferred MW 2's HUD in terms of usefulness. Though I'm sure MW:0's HUD is gonna be nice, it just can't beat the computer voice in MW 2 that would tell you time, weather, if auto pilot was on or off (on top of it being the best voice acting for mech computer I've ever heard).

In terms of beauty, it has to be MW 3. It just felt like a cockpit was suppose to. The flashing buttons, the window, the static from getting overheat or near death, the glass cracking at the shot of ACs was all aesthetically amazing. If MW 5 were coming out, the Warhammer's cockpit would of been my definite choice, but MW:O cockpit just looks too idk pale (I honestly have no good point for why i don't like it. So yah it's too pale in terms of color (it's pale reddish)...Deal with it XD. Then again it's only a screen shot, maybe i'd grow to love it in actual game play).

as far as games actually out. i always liked MW3 the most for its graphics and such. mech4 was... poorly done and coulda been better with its graphics if they woulda tried IMO

MW3 did looks pretty good, and 4 always felt kind of "cartoonish" to me. I say cartoonish lightly however.

MWLL have best HUD for teamplay ever made in MechWarrior games, and with new HUD style released it will be the best.
About MWO: damage screen is terrible (not readable at all), no radar (its VERY useful in close range battles, in MWLL and MW3 u can change radar scale to control positions of enemies). Map itself in MWO is not informative in terms of types of units, you dont know who following you even if you have radar data.

Liking the HUD from MWO the best. It's very well designed, very clean, very efficient.

I like the MWO, MW3, and MWLL (new and old style) huds equally for their own separate reasons. MW3 was great for presenting information that wasn't too cluttered on the screen, MWLL does a good job of presenting a lot of information at once in a way that allows you you make sense of it instantly, and MWO just looks darned sexy (except for the damage indicator, definitely needs more contrast through the damage levels).

Also small correction for the OP, the MW2 hud did have its own separate bar for jumpjets if the mech was equipped with them. dh/dt stands for derivative of heat with respect to time; In other words, it was a meter that showed how quickly you were dissipating or generating heat at the time due to your actions in game.

Folks should realize, this isn't fair for MWLL because they are developing a new HUD :>

But to be completely honest, EarthSiege 2 had the absolute BEST mecha HUD/Cockpit:

The new MW:LL HUD looks dope, I wish I had crysis warhead so I could play that mod :) After more consideration I agree with the other posters that the damage indicator is too difficult to read really effectively. Maybe make it so that it starts as green with an undamaged mech and then changes to yellow and red as armor/internals are destroyed. That would make it a heck of a lot more clear makes a lil more sense imho. :)

Since I haven't played either MWLL or MWO I voted MW3. I know with the screen shots MWO seems easier but I would have to experience it first hand to say it is better.
