Autocannons mounted on small mechs in an urban fight. Love me some gauss but up close an ac/20 or lbx ac/20 is hard to beat.

Binary Laser Cannon (aka the BLC or 'Blazer'). Even as flawed as it is, it's hard not to appreciate an energy headcapper that's been around since 2812. And since Heavy PPCs aren't available until 3067...

durned urbies! have to kill em on the off chance one's an UM-R60L.
Seen quite a few pilots think the urbies harmless until that ac/20 goes off in their face

Medium laser. You can keep your 3070s ubertech, pound for pound nothing beats the Old Standby.

Agreed, hence my affection for the Old Grasshopper.

I really want to say Heavy Medium Laser. Medium Lasers period are workhorse weapons, many many battlemechs have them.

Though if I was going to go with just one, I might say the mighty Gauss Rifle. Elegant one shot punch.

Arrow IV
Maximum alpha.

I actually had a config for the Daishi with an arrow 4 in CT to dumbfire on coliseum and urban maps (MW4).

For the time period, PPC. All time Gauss Rifle!

According to the Tech Manual, the gauss rifle was rediscovered in 3040 by 3 IS Houses.

Gauss and PPC, long range version if possible.
I usually build balanced and versatile Mechs, so I rely generally on a combination of
all kinds of weapons, PPC or laser as backup, once the missiles and AC's or Gauss is out of ammo.
Like to get as much room between me and my prey as possible.
If the fight takes me into urban territory, I skip the missiles for a gritty AC10/20.
Depends on the expected time on target - duration of the fight.
I usually don't build boats.

I've been liking the Light AC-5 a lot recently, but when it comes to favorites: HATCHET

Bog standard PPC, works well in all eras. For Clans the Large Pulse Laser, it's just perfect.

Medium or large lasers. They stack quite nicely on any chassis regardless of its mass, and having 12 medium lasers is rarely unheard of even on medium 'Mechs (see: Komodo, Clan Nova, Swayback).
