Not sure if anyone has posted about this yet, but will MWO have the option to display the damage bars over the simplified mech outline to show your mechs status in terms of damage taken? Since MW2 mercenaries(didn't play 2, please forgive me, for I have sinned in the ways of mechwarrior), I hated the standard damage display, you'd see yellow after your mech was damaged until it went into criticals. This changed later on, with the introduction of more than 3 colors, but it still was annoying. and not worth using over the precision of the bar format. From the MWO gameplay footage, it is still near impossible(for me at least) to distinguish the amount of damage the mechs have taken just from seeing a millimeter wide sliver of outline change colors.

So will there be an option to view bars over outline?
Additionally, what do you guys favor more? The traditional mechout line, or bar format for a damage report?

Mech outline I think is more feasible to me, I just find it easier to assess quickly, and at higher resoultions, it will probably be harder to assess the bars quicker than the simple outline just due to size.

The scout/recon role may well have skills that make enemy damage more obvious as a mechanical benefit of skill investment. On cursory inspection, the system look good. I'm leary of having 'health bars' displayed for component carrying areas since that feels a bit arcadey.

How about both? O.o I don't understand why this has to be a 'one or the other' thing...

Has come up before.

Bars please! Optional damage readouts so users can choose their favorite would be preferable.

This would be the best option, even liking more the outline of the mech, plz, put bars for those who like it.

I personally prefer the bars, I find it easier to gauge the overall damage taken and inflicted. In MW4 the first thing I did at the start of every match was to swich to bar readouts. I'm sure pirhanna will be able to find a way to make bar readouts more in-depth and less arcadey, perhaps double bars for each location, armor and internals. This may be dificult to read at first but after a little while it should get easier.

Bar display options would be great for your mech. A more exact knowledge of the situation to know when to favor a side, or perhaps dump ammo. For enemy readouts the basic mech outline with a few colors works. I do like the idea of information gathering mechs to give a more detailed view of enemy damage.

Back when I played MW4 extensively, I only ever ran with the default mode. However, at this point in my gaming life, I might actually go with the bars just so I can see things a little more detailed than just with the standard colored outline.

Might want to check out "Just Not Feeling the Damage Display System" for additional thoughts.

Good ideas abound in the Suggestions forum.

Yeah I vote for both as well. I prefer bars and, in Lake's perfect world, even digital data showing armor, structural, and internal damage.

I also want damage of other mechs to be dependent on active sensor data where you cant get bars or info unless you are scanning them or a lance mate is scanning them and you have c3 / data link. I also don’t really want to see the mech itself with highlighted colored sections. That’s just stupid imo.

From what Ive seen, damage will be silhouettes and you can highlight other mech sections so they stand out on your hud for targeting. I want to play test it first before I comment on it.

I prefer the mech location colours, it's ***** proof and I am, after all....an *****. I also like how quickly I can see which parts of my mech I need to protect.

(lol, i d i o t isn't really an expletive that needs to be filtered.)

To me the basic mech outline method to indicate damage is easier to read but again this is my own opinion. By the way will there be an option to change the readout similar to MW3 i.e the 3d view, the 2d view and the graph view?
