Or you can just bind it to ALL your weapon groups so it's always firing? Or is that too complicated for the lizard brain?

For some ppl the timing when you fire your weapons is crittical the help center tosor shoot. Gouping to all weapon doesn't offer the same performance. On off group six work extremely well, some ppl think out side the box. Only lizard brain tries to group tag on all weapon group, well that my opinion vs yours.

Honestly, I'd just like to see integrated toggle functionality for the game itself. My fire support hunchback just has it as his group 2 (1 is arm weapons; 3 is missiles.) but other mechs have more weapon groups - like my brawler hunchback.

Ideally, tag should work like ecm. Press J to toggle counter (tag on) and disrupt (tag off).

I used to weigh the 6 key down with a rock I found in the garden. That was too low tech, so I fashioned a paper and alligator clip contraption that exploded when I mashed my keyboard in a panic and barely missed my eye. Losing an eye to a computer game didn't seem that heroic to me, so I tried small change for a while, but that ended up all over the place whenever I became even mildly frustrated. Now I use a surprisingly heavy rock with the Chinese symbol for 'fear' carved onto it. I find it somewhat appropriate whenever I see 'squaaaaaawk' or whenever wispy shows up and claims my life.

OP is total brilliant. Low tech macro is total success. Subscription earned. Pentuple respect.

Smart idea. Be ready to make a video since some will not get it.

what?
Why on earth do that.
When I run tag the LAST thing I want is a beacon leading directly back to ME that is turned on all the time.

btw, OP I use a penny. fits the slot perfectly, and I can (in a couple of seconds) turn it on or off as needed

I would LOVE a two stage setup, see the enemy, depress the mouse key to fire the tag, the moment the target gets locked, the missiles fire. Let go, tag laser goes off.
THAT would be a slick macro

I bind it to a key like left shift so that I can easily activate it even when using keys to move, adjust throttle and fire. It's amazing how many times people will forget that TAG can be turned on/off and will suddenly see the laser move away from the side of that rock that they've been peeking around several times too many. It's just enough to lure people out RIGHT under my lasers for the kill.

My macro is to jam a penny into the Key Board to keep the tag key depressed.
