So, right off the start I am going to say this was my very first attempt at fan fiction. Dont hate.

Tarazed, 3059
Smoke Jaguar occupation zone
First wave of Operation Bulldog

"Almost time" I thought to myself as I checked the cronometer again. I breathed in a slow steady breath as I tried to calm myself and relax in the dim confines of my mech's cockpit. I was tense, no doubt about it. It had been a long wait as we of the 3rd company, 3rd battalion of the 2nd Genyosha otherwise known as the Naginata's had waited to close the jaws of our trap on the Smoke Jaguar's who were being hearded tword our possition. My eyes were constantly moving over my screens as I checked and double checked my readouts. All systems read good, as If I did not know they would already. I was in stand-by mode waiting for the order to power up and attack, and the waiting was starting to get to me. Patince had never been my strong suit, all my instructors, and my mother and father had told me so. Too much of the Irish my father had said. I had been touched by flame and fury my mother had said.

Both my Mother and Father had been Samurai of the Draconis Combine My father falling in battle back in '39 during the last war with the Davions. My mother took up his sword, and fell against Clans when they invaded back in '50. Everything had changed with their coming. The Clans had devoured much of the Draconis Combine and the Lyran half of the Federated Commonwealth in their push to conquer Terra. I had finally gotten my long awaited transfer into the 2nd Genyosha just before the battle of Luithen and was one of the few of the Genyosha who survived it. The Dragon had managed to claim victory, but it came at a high cost, only a battalion managed to make it through the battle.

While I was one those who made it through the battleI lost the family mech that had passed from parent to eldest child over the last 200 years. The old Thug served well in its final battle. Taking down three Jaguars and two Nova Cats during the course of the battle. It finally fell during the Nova Cats push through the the Kado-guchi Valley. I was forced to eject after my downing a Nova Cat Nabori-nin when my ammunition bins blew from its final salvo and tore the old mech apart. It was a shame that had hung on my sholders for the past seven years.

After eight years rebuilding and suffering from the wounds the Jaguars had inflicted it was time for the Dragon to roar its fury and hit back. I had waited a long time for this moment, and the thought of what was to come made me smile. I had been given high honors for my service to the Dragon. First was the gift of the one of the new Akuma battlemechs given to me by Tai-sa Nelson herself, for in her words " To restore honor that had been lost, and to avenge those who had fallen." Smiling again I closed my eyes and remembered the other honor given to me on the night before we made planetfall. I lay in the arms of my love, Tai-i Kachiko Kusanagi a heavly frowned apon affair in the military of course, but one we had kept well hidden thus far. "Sebastion, as you know 3rd battalion has been tasked with closing off the Jaguars escape route. Chu-sa Myer has selected 3rd company to be the anvil apon which the hammer of the 1st and 2nd will smash the Jaguars against. You'll be the point of our sword. When the time is right you will advance from cover and offer the Jaguars single combat." I turned to look at her blinking in shock at what she was telling me. " While it's belived," she continued " that they will accept based on their granting us safecon, command estimates there's a high probablity they won't. Should they not, the rest of the company will engage and attempt to hold until the rest of the battalion arrives. I was ordered to select one member of the 3rd for this...honor. " I arched my eyebrow at her and ran my fingers down her arm, her skin was so soft I thought. Like silk almost. " You say that as if it wasn't an honor at all" Kachiko jerked her arm away and scowled at me " It's likely that I'm sending you to your death." she sighed and ran her fingers through my hair " You know this right?" I smiled up at her and nodded " I do, but we are Samurai, and it's our duty. Why me?" " Because you stand the best chance of surviving, and it's my duty to select the best. Even if it's you. I have never loathed my duty until now." Kachiko lay back as sat up on my arms to look at her before kissing her gently " Then why don't we forget about duty for the next hour and be free of it's weight for that long?" words that would have me transfered out of the Genyosha should they have been heard by any other ears. I couldn't help but laugh to myself and shake my head, what a fool love makes of even the greatest of samurai. Laughing she pulled me down into her arms and for the next hour we forgot our duty.

Blinking my eyes I shook my head to clear it. Focus, no time for love now. Only duty. I checked my radar screen and listened to the com chatter from the battle. It seemed that a trinary had broken away from the main force and was heading our way, right into our trap. They were moving fast though...likely a striker trinary, fast mediums and heavies with alot of firepower. They would reach the killzone well before 1st and 3rd companies would be in position. In danger of being out-gunned and out manuvered he realised his role was the only hope of holding them long enough to ensure that his own company was ready to stand against them.
The com cracked to life for a moment..." All Naginata units this is Naginata Actual, change of plans, it looks like we are in for a one on one with an approching trinary, prepare to engage on my orders, radio silence until then. Acknowlage." "Naginata Five, cofirmed." Naginata Nine, Acknowlaged." Running one more check of my systems I glanced of the picture of my Mother and Father and I together. They standing side by side in their dress uniforms, and me holding my fathers katana in my arms with a stupid grin on my face in front of them. I took the braid of Kachiko's hair she had given me for luck and breathed in the scent of her for what could be the last time. Apples and honey. I took a deep breath and relaxed, focusing on the task at hand. " Enemy mechs detected" came the warning from my Akuma's computer. " About time" I said aloud and glanced at my radar. It was I good day to die.

Taking hold of my contols I keyed my mike and made the request so many others had before me had. " With the Tai-i's permission?" " You honor the Genyosha, Sho-ko. Show them no mercy." came Kachiko's reply. "Hai" I flipped the switches and brought my Akuma to full power and throttled the 90 ton mech forward to do battle. No doubt the Jaguars had detected me, and I grinned with anticipation as I burst through to cover of the forest we had been waiting in. Scanning the terrian in front of me I couldn't help but think that command had picked a beautiful place for me to die. Down the hill in the valley before me was lush and green the river that the Jaguar mechs were just now emerging from added to its serenity.

Again keying my mike, this time on an open channel, I raised my Akuma's arms and shouted my challenge both over the radio, and my mechs speakers. " I am Sho-ko Sebastion Augustus Toombs, son of Sheamus and Machiko Toombs. I trace my lineage back to a time before man first traveled among the stars. On Luithen I personally defeated three Smoke Jaguar and two Nova Cats in combat. I would challange any before me who have the courage and stomach to fight a Samurai of the Draconis Combine, to face me in single combat." I lowered my mechs arms and waited for the reply I prayed would come. I didn't have to wait long as the approching Trinary slowed and then halted all but a single omni-mech, a Cauldron-Born, which continued to come on. Not good I thought to myself.

" I am Star Captain Peter, your challange is clumsy and your trashborn bloodlines mean nothing to a trueborn warrior. I am your death freebirth surat." with no other words the clansman opened fire at the extreme range of his ER large lasers. I should't have charged, the Cauldron-Born an A variant and carried a blistering array of medium lasers and a massive auto-cannon that would turn my mechs armor to scrap metal in mere seconds. But if I stayed at range he would pick me appart. So I screamed in fury and slammed my mechs throttle to full speed and charged as the samurai of old did. I had an extra 25 tons and stronger armor against his range, mobility and firepower, it should have been a one sided match with him the victor. Yeah, right. Clanners you see, are brilliant mechwarriors, but far to overconfidant in my opinion and always underestimating us.

I had had some quick modifications made to my Akuma enroute to the planet and I hoped they were about to pay off. I had downgraded my medium pulse laser to a standrd version and installed a c3 slave to better coordinate with my lance. I had also ditched the smaller of my SRM racks and my Auto-cannon in favor of a harder hitting long range Gauss rifle. It was the one weapon we had that was the equal of anything the Clans had, and I wanted one.

Charging into range I unleashed a few random shots from my ER PPC and gauss rifle, more to keep the clanner off balance then to cause damage. Return fire from the Cauldron-Born's lasers melted armor off my arm and leg, leaving glowing molten scars in their path. I snapped off another blast from my PPC ment to go wide and be showy, and I grinned when it had the desired effect. The clanner sqaured up waiting for me to get into range of his auto-cannon and planted in place to line up what I am sure he thought was going to be the perfect shot and cut me down. I fired my gauss rifle and PPC again this time accually aiming and grinned as the hypersonic ferrous nickel-iron slug slammed into one of the Cauldron-Born's back canted legs shattering armor lodging in the knee joint. A lucky shot for sure, but then I had the Irish in me and my father always said we were a lucky people. But then again, I had won the third qaurter Kensi Kami back in '48 as well.

I could tell the shot had caused problems as I shifted my angle of attack an the clanner had trouble tracking me. Stupid he may have been but lacking in skill he was not. At 1500 meters the trio of ER medium lasers in his torso joined with large ones in turning nearly two tons of my armor into molten scrap as they carved into it across my chest and hip. Keeping my mech steady amid the damage I grinned with feral delight and showed the clanner how badly he had underestimated me. Firing my MRM at maximum range along with my gauss rifle and PPC and hit the nearly stationary Cauldron-Born with everything showing off my above average gunnery skills. Missles peppered the torso and hip in a chain of blossoming explosions while the lighting like blast of my PPC slammed into the already damaged leg followed by another slug from my gauss rifle snapping the worn leg off and sending the Cauldron-Born crashing to the ground in a graceless spin.

I closed the distance as quick as my Akuma could manuvering out of the line of fire if the massive auto-cannon and firing repeatedly on the downed mech adding my own medium lasers and SRM's to the mix punishing the wounded machine. The heat in my cockpit turned swealtering as I did so, sweat pouring down my neck. I would have to be more carful with firing my weapons lest I find myself humilatingly shut down from overheating. The Cauldron-Born was struggling to rise but I did not give it the chance moving into point blank range I placed my PPC against the mechs cockpit canopy and triggered the comms. " You are beaten Star Captain, Stay down and submit to becoming my prisoner."" Never! Never, Freebirth surat!" came the enraged reply. " Then die with honor" I said and fired both my PPC and medium laser into the cockpit instantly killing the clanner.

Turning to the waiting Trinary of Jaguars I raised my arms once more " Who is next to fall?" I asked and waited. I did not have to wait long as the heaviest omni-mech in the group came charging out at me, a Man O' War. I couldn't help but laugh. Though the mech was fast, it was woefully undergunned for an 80 ton mech as far I as I was concerned. The clanner never said a word just came charging strait at me his light auto-cannons chatting away shaking my in my seat as the constant stream of shells exploded against my armor. I stopped laughing and scowled, ok..undergunned up damn annoying I thought. Showing off a little I took my time in lining up my shot and waited for it. Firing a single shot from my gauss rifle I smiled as it streaked through the space between us and smashed strait into the clanners cockpit taking out the Man O' War in one shot the giant maching pitching over backward and falling like a puppet cut free of its strings.

Checking my damage display I frowned not realizing how much damage the two quick engagements had done. Yellow across the board, with my right arm and leg in orange. The damned Man O' War had peppered my armor everywhere but my Akuma's head. Well...nothing to be done for it but to pray to the gods that it would hold out for at least one more duel. Checking my position and the rest of the company's I saw that they were nearly in done moving into position under the cover of ECM. One more should do it...then we would have these Jaguars in our jaws.

I brought my mech into position ready to face another challange knowing that one would come once the clanners were done bidding among themselves for the honor of facing me. I knew my next opponent would not underestimate me like the previous two had, and likely be one of the best in the whole trinary. Smart enough to let others weaken me, and see what I was capable of. To gauge if I were a truely worthy opponent. I didn't have to wait long as soon enough another mech throttled forward out of the pack. A Ryoken from the looks of it, checking my screens I saw my computer had tagged it as a B variant. Oh hells...I was in big trouble and I knew it. I had 35 tons on it, but that wouldn't matter. My Akuma was wounded and patheticly slow compared to how fast the Ryoken could move. It could out manuver me, and carried devistating mid to short range fire power.

I raised my arm in salute and recognition of the challange, and was surprised to see it returned in kind. No sense wasting time on pleasntries I thought and opened fired immediatly with my PPC and gauss rifle at extreme range and begain backing up the hill twords the cover of the tree line attempting to keep the range between us as far apart as long as possible. It isn't often that one can enjoy a range advantage over the clans and I was going to try and milk it for all it was worth. The Ryoken shifted and darted to and fro coming at me in an angled zig zaging pattern, it was hard to keep him tracked and I failed to land a single shot from either of my long range weapons. What came next was a shock.

"I am Star Commander Theresa Showers. To where do you run Sebastion Toombs? You will only prolong the inevitable." came the mocking challange from the Ryoken's pilot. " You have fought with honor, and with skill I have seen only once in a warrior of the Inner Sphere." Lasers stabbed out from the Ryoken's arm with the precision of a surgeons scaple cutting slabs from my armor one even carving a deep trench across my Akuma's head and set off danger warnings in my cockpit. Shifting my mech and trying to throw off her aim I returned fire with my MRM's the unguided rockets leaping from my sholder to where the Ryoken had been a moment earlier causing the earth to fountain in the wake of the multipule explosions. "You fight as she fought" she taunted as she came charging out of the smoke and haze strait at me her massive auto-cannon beltching flame as it fired a long string of high explosive rounds. The impacts rocked me in my seat my whole mech shuddered from them. I knew I was taking a pounding, the shells leaving my armor cratered from sholder to hip " But her skill was not enough to save her, and it will not be enough to save you"

My armor was being torn to shreds and she had manuvered to cut me off from cover, as I expected she would firing her mechs lasers in a one to quick sequince that would keep her running cool, and throwing in blasts from her auto-cannon for good measure. I was doing what I could to minimize the incoming damage, but the Akuma is far from a graceful mech. "Perhaps you knew her, Sebastion Toombs, her name was Machiko Toombs. Was she perhaps a realitve?" the clanner laughed and taunted as she took me appart peice by peice. I snapped screaming with inarticulate fury I changed course throttling up to full speed and charged forward in a last bid to make the cover of the treeline.

Theresa was expecting it and zipped to cut me off just as I hoped she would. It brought her too close to me and I shouted furiously unloading everything I had on her having kept my mech cool through the one sided duel. As I charged head on at her caught between me and the treeline she had cut off her own escape route and I had her right where I wanted her. But she had me as well. Her auto-cannon smashed the armor and left impact hole from my leg to my hip, her lasers nearly punching through my paper thin right side, and exposing myomer on my right arm. My MRM's and SRM's streaked out to explode against her mechs chest and torso one or two even hitting the cockpit canopy and rattling her in her seat stunning her. My Guass slug slamed into her leg as my PPC and lasers cut through her damaged left torso hitting an ammuntion bin and cooking off what was left in a huge explosion that sent her mech spinning as I hammered the full weight of my 90 ton Akuma into her much smaller Ryoken and drove it into the ground.

Warning lights lit up my boards and a critical damage message was sounding over my internal speakers as I worked my battered mech back onto its feet. " Ha...it worked. Thank the gods..." I laughed to myself and wiped blood out of my eyes. When the hell had I gotten cut? Never mind not important. Time finish her off. Again firing my missles and gauss rifle into the Ryoken I marched over and smashed my foot down on her mech's remaining arm pinning it to the earth. " Do you know what the weakness of your kind is Theresa Showers? Over-confidance. And it's gotten you killed." " I am not dead yet freebirth" she replied and attempted to rise. It wasn't going to happen with my standing on her arm but she tried anyway screaming in fury when her mech did little more then kick its leg. " You are now you tank bred *****. Machiko Toombs was my mother." I said raised my Akuma's fist " For Machiko, and for the Dragon." and then pistoned my mech's fist repeatedly into the Theresa Shower's cockpit.

Vengance and honor satisfied, and my fury spent I wearly brought my battered mech back around to face the remaining Jaguars. I had next to no armor, and my mech looked like it had fought to claw itself free from hell itself grinning like the demon it had been named for. My com crackled to life as Kachiko broke radio silence" All Naginata units this is Naginata Actual, we have them where we want them, for the Dragon...CHARGE!" Kachiko and the rest of the company came bursting free from cover on three sides of the surprised Jaguars camed flooding down the hills like the dark ocean the Genyosha took its name from weapons blazing.
The heavy and assault mechs of the Naginata company tore into them with a fury and felled three of the Jaguars in the first volley with their combined fire. Even caught flat footed and surprised the clanners did not go down easy. They fought with the ferocity of their namesake and left five of my fellows down or dead in the valley and inflicted serious damage on the rest as they fought to the last man. Dispite that, it was a surprisingly short fight with the last Jaguar mech, a Timber Wolf, brought down by Kachiko's own Naginata on the river bank.

Some how I had made it through the charge and ensuing free for all. I assisted with downing two more mechs though it left my Akuma limping and minus a right arm. It also had a hole clear through the right torso so big you could nearly drive a small hover car through it. Even though the techs techs later repaired all the damage to armor I was able to convince them to leave the laser scar across my Akuma's face. I liked to look of it and decided it made the already demonic looking mech look more fierce.

Feeling quite pleased with myself and more then happy to still be alive to serve the Dragon I asked Kachiko for orders. "Naginata company sound off and prepare to fall back. We have been ordered to rearm and repair. There is much to be done yet." she replyed over the company channel. As the rest of the company replied their assent I got a hail over a private com channel. " Well done Sho-ko."" Domo arigato, Tai-i "" I expect you to report to me for immediate debriefing once we return to base. The saki will be on me." I couldn't help but smile and laugh "Hai Tai-i, as you command." as I limped my Akuma back to base I couldnt help but hum an old Irish drinking song my father had loved.
