I'm looking for help.
I'am sorry to ask.
Call me lazy.
I do not have time to spare to read up on all the latest tech to do this right myself. Can you help?
Trying to do this as a surprise for a young man who gives his best to many and needs a bone thrown his way.
Can you help me with this?
Please try not to be to biassed.
Ask me about your car and I'd be happy to lend you my best knowledge.

Oh and thank you in advance.

Started to try and do this myself and felt a strong anxiety set in by all the different tech info. Really made me feel like bagging the whole idea. But that wouldn't help him much.

Do you currently have any system at all that parts could be scavenged from?

I'm going to have to say no.

After further searching this doesn't look like it can be done.
I was just thinking MB, CPU, Memory, PSU, and graphics.
I forgot about hard drive, disc drive, case. Of course unless his current parts will work. I don't know.

this is what i came up with

http://secure.newegg...spx?Submit=view

Ive used that card, works great with this game. some more experienced people may tell you to sue a lower card (like a 5XXX) since it will work right now. i currently use that same power supply, works great with no problem. however you may want to take a look at vulpes' weekly build stickied at the top of the page. he knows quite a bit, but is his cheapest is 600$

Tough one i personally would not build for less than $600 on a full entire rebuild.

Thank you for your effort! The link took me to an empty shopping cart. I realize what you trying to do and did not know this was even possible. Thanks for pointing me to Vulpes info.

DV thank you, I seems that without skimping a bit this is going to be difficult. I found no connection to a graphics card but you did take the time to let me know if it was possible.

I find it frustrating at how many different options available to us MHZ this and Ghz that, CPU families, memory modules, etc, etc.
How many different d*mn quad core processors do we need to choose from.

Correct, it used the onboard APU of the A10 in conjunction with the 1600Mhz RAM.

And yes, the basket is saved locally.

The new AMD Onboard APUs are actually very very good. The higher end ones equivalent to a mid-range standalone card, albeit with less dedicated memory. This is usually fine since it will just use the system RAM, which is EXTREMELY cost efficient right now, since you can load 8gb for less than $50.

Note: I play this game on a rig built for about $150. Not counting monitor/mouse/keyboard.

This is from scavenging parts from friendly junk piles, and computer repair store recycle bins (Like this OEM Dell motherboard, with only 2/4 SATA ports working ;), and then buying a few things off craigslist dirt cheap.

The new AMD APU's are very good for what they cost, on a low end budget system you really can't beat them, they are dependent on high speed RAM to function at their best.
It will play MWO on a mix of Low/Medium settings.

When he can afford it he can by a 6/7 series AMD card and Hybrid Xfire them together.

Amazing how many people still don't know about pcpartpicker (hint- pcpartpicker is to building pc's is what smurfy's mechlab tool is to building mechs, and is updated with realtime prices, sources, and filtering, all just clickable links...)

You guys are great! I have a feeling of hope again. We might be able to use his case, OD, and HDD. I'll have to discretley pick his brain.
He's my goto auto parts guy. Talk to him a bit about other things and this young guy just can't get a break in life, but goes well out his way for others.

If it were an Intel, no. HD Graphics 4000, what a joke. We'll have to see what Haswell's GT series can do.

If he can, then Vulps better $600 build becomes more attainable.

Just to throw this out there, it's not a best solution for performance but it helps save a lot of money:

Might look into an APU solution. This way you can get a working rig without having to buy a GPU seperately. APU = CPU and GPU all in one package, it's and AMD FM2 socket. Most expensive one, the A10 5800K, is 130 USD and I've been testing it out personally. Playing MWO, depending on a patch by patch basis ( ) I'm over 22 FPS average, and occasionally dip to 14 FPS minimum. This is at 1650x1050 res with all non lighting and shadow settings at high.

The performance of it on the graphics side is about the same, maybe a little better, than the 5000 you're looking at now. So as a starter solution, you get an APU, motherboard, and RAM (if you do this get DDR3 1866, it's critical to a healthy APU rig). My bundle for this got a performance motherboard and performance RAM so my 300 USD was little higher than it could have been - I could have saved more if I got something less juicy.

Link to the APU here:
http://www.newegg.co...N82E16819113280

Anyways, like I said, just two cents. It's not going to be a miracle worker playing games but so far I've found it to be solid. Can always upgrade the GPU later to a discrete card and shut off the graphics core of the APU for even better performance - hence why I suggest this idea as a " dirt cheap / get you started" solution.

Craigslist+patience my friend and you'll get a good deal

Oh and there's an HD6850 on CL in Louisville for $110 I'm in that area and I could ship it to you if you wanted. It's an older ad so maybe it got sold but it couldn't hurt to ask I guess.

Scavenger cost suggestion:
You can upgrade any version of windows to windows 8, regardless of whether or not the version you're upgrading has been activated or not.
Which means if you can lay your hands on a windows vista or 7 .ISO [and you can get them from MS I Believe] you can upgrade to a full copy of Windows 8 for $40 *UNTIL THE END OF THIS MONTH.  I figure every little bit would help in a situation like this
The point of this post is to help the O/P reduce cost.  I am not here to debate the finer points of "which O/S is better", so I would really prefer if we could just skip that particular argument entirely.
I would mention, however, that the "windows key + X" shortcut is the single best and biggest hidden shortcut in Windows 8.
PS: Be advised that it will upgrade to the same version [32 bit or 64 bit] as what you install, so you probably want to make sure you find a 64 bit version of w/e.
