Since I'm not certain how exactly the various weapons are going to function in MWO, my general rules are going to be:
1) Maximize armor
2) Double Heat Sinks ASAP, but only enough for whichever range group has most heat (long/short)
3) Swap XL engines for normal engine, since survivability trumps speed without movement modifiers.
4) Drop ammo weapons first,
4a) Don't like SRMs, unless MWO performance is awesome, swap for LRMs or remove
4b) LRM 10s weigh 1 ton more than 2x LRM 5 + 1 ton ammo for same # of shots = free ton if hardpoints allow
4c) LB 10-X for any AC/10s as soon as possible, cluster ammo preferred
4d) Swap any AC/20 for a Gauss Rifle as soon as possible.
4e) Exception: Place Machine Guns in any empty ballistic hardpoints, 0 heat = mostly free damage, add CASE
5) Maximize Jump Jets, i.e. put 2 more in the Jenner.
Specific examples (assumes only 3025 tech for now, since unsure how fast 3050 stuff arrives):
Jenner: Drop SRM 4 and Ammo, swap 2 Medium Lasers for Smalls, add 2 Jump Jets, maximize armor.
Raven: Pick the 2X variant
Cicada: Drop speed to 7/11 equivalent, drop all weapons, put in Large Laser/PPC, heat sinks, extra armor.
Dragon: Drop all weapons, maximize armor, put in 2 large lasers and heat sinks (16 total)
Catapult: Good Design, no change.
Cataphract: Slightly smaller Marauder
Awesome: Drop 1 PPC, replace with Large Laser, add Heat Sinks with difference.
