This game is in no need for another light mech

They release mechs in the following pattern: Light, Medium, Heavy, Assult, Light,... The last mech was the Stalker, an assult mech. Now they released the Spider, a light mech. IT'S A PATTERN.

That may be, but I don't think anyone should have expected anything different. Now, if they release the Flea next, there is reason to complain about it.

The reason we got the Spider and not the flea is extremely simple:
MASC

Netcode is broken enough without introducing that

@OP: well... i gotta say i had the same feeling... we already had enough light mechs for now...jenner, commando and raven gave a nice variety for scouts/ scouthunter purposes...

i would have liked to see more of the heavier guys or a "real" medium, the cicada is more of a blown up light, unless you build it up totally contrary to it´s purpose... imho - and only imho - the spider was unnescessary at this point... but now it´s there, we have to live with it... i guess the next mech for me will appear around summer... :D

It'll be a prduction cycle reason, These mechs planned and worked on for months prior to ECM and rather than delaying their release to an already hungry for content community they went ahead and released them.

They don't detract from the game and a lot of people will derive enjoyment from piloting them and/or stomping them.

What's a real medium?

Centurions seem like a half-light.

Cicadas are a heavier light.

Hunches seem to be the only medium, but to me they will always be walking fridges.

And the Dragon is a Medium in heavy disguise.

What is medium?

A miserable pile of unclear definitions!

But enough XL engines, DHS at you.

2 sides of a coin:

1. PGI: Hm, our netcode still sucks and people use lights like crazy cause they can abuse lagshield. Let's roll out more lights so we can make sweet cash.

2. PGI: Ok, our last hero mechs were all 50tons+, so let's bring a light hero mech for a change.

People angry at the netcode or PGI will choose theory 1, rational people will choose theory 2...maybe it's a bit of both...who knows...I don't care

A medium is neither fish nor fowl. A versatile mech that can nicely assist heavies, protect assaults and backup light mechs. Really looking forward to the "Trenchbucket" which is coming next.

Although I do not play light mechs, I like the idea of a light hero mech and the Death's Knell does not look too OP in comparison to the other lights available. We shall see. Progress is progress. Small steps :D

bringing out new mechs at the moment is just a pure waste of time and effort, it would be better spent fixing the current on-going broken netcode and other broken parts of the game, it's obvious that the driving force behind the developers or sponsors of the game is purely financial.
As hard as it maybe to believe the evidence stares at you every time you log on, really they need to keep their fan base up and give the players something to chew on, instead of trying to rake in the coin at every given opportunity, its all right there you just gotta look and see.

I suspect many of the devs who produce each mech aren't part of the teams responsible for fixing issues like netcode. There may be some overlap in teams but I would be very surprised if PGI had for example artists also working on netcode...

wait... maybe that's the problem?

I once flew a Pheasant.

I have since moved on to shooting them.

Does this make all heavy mechs some variant of carnivorous ferret/mammal?

I don't really understand how the Trench is all that different from the HBKs we have, though.

Same chicken... Different spices.

It's just another medium for more variety for you to shoot at if you only want to look at it through your reticle view. If you prefer heavies, you might value a good medium pilot assisting you.

Why do you think I trained my lance-slave FRIEND to pilot a HBK...?

Hmm... It's just another medium for me to shoot at?

OKAY, I HEREBY DUB THEE...

PARTRIDGE.

... okay I'll leave now.

you're terribly ignorant.

20-35: light.
40-55: Medium.
60-75: heavy.
80-100: assault.

Cicada can actually pack on more armor and speed and equal firepower compared to lights. Dragon does the same. Both can decide to carry "class below" armor OR their own class in speed, and have superior firepower to lights.

"fringe" mechs, those at the low ton end of the scale, are usually designed as harassers or strikers, with speed, slightly better armor and weapons.

There's no way that you can't turn them into mechs that fall in line with the behavior of their own weight class (more guns/armor, less speed), but you'd rather cry about it than build your own, wouldn't you?
