Feared. Tenacious. Victorious. Indomitable.

Steel Jaguar is a collection of competitive gamers who are as dedicated to victory and the play-to-win philosophy as they are to each other. Alongside holding themselves to a very high skill standard, +SJR+ members take pride in maintaining a level of respect for each other and for their opponents. +SJR+ is not just a gaming team, it has become a family of like-minded competitors - hence the tongue-in-cheek moniker by which initiates of the team are identified: "Jagbro".

Reborn from the ashes of its decade-old MechWarrior 4 incarnation, +SJR+ began a new reign in November 2011. From the first moment following MechWarrior Online's announcement, +SJR+ members made themselves active in the community by promoting competition and the need for a league scene in MechWarrior Online.

Originally known as Smoke Jaguar Reborn, the team made a decision in May, 2012: to abandon BattleTech roleplay in the unit's identity, and to embrace a unique identity. The team remodeled itself from the ground up, to mimic the structure of modern successful pro-gaming teams, and Steel Jaguar was born. This enabled the team to retain its decade-old "tags", +SJR+, but to forge forward without any copyright issues or conflicts of interest with other teams. This allowed +SJR+ pursue its main goal as a MechWarrior Online competitive team: to be the very best in the game.

+SJR+ was present at the very first official MechWarrior Online tournament on July 27 2012 at the NVidia MechMadness Tournament, where X.O. Eagle Furey competed as a member of the victorious Team 13. He took home a prize package of an NVidia 680, a Razer Naga mouse, a Razer Goliathus Mousepad, and a MWO Legendary Founders Pack.

As the MWO community grew, +SJR+ made the creation and promotion of a true competitive community its mission, and to further this end founded the premiere MechWarrior Online competitive league - Run Hot or Die.

In MWO Closed Beta, +SJR+ hosted and administrated the RHoD Closed Beta tournament, and took 3rd place behind finalists KaoS Legion and the victors, Eridani Light Pony.

In Run Hot or Die Season 1, +SJR+ finished undefeated in the regular season in both its North American and European divisions, and entered both NA and EU Playoffs as first seed. +SJR+ was the only team to have both its EU and NA divisions reach the Playoffs. +SJR+ NA is currently competing in the playoffs.

+SJR+ members have shown their colors in the PGI-hosted weekend solo tournaments:

Be A Hero event Top Gun Challenge:
  • maddogncux placed 2nd Overall
  • Haree78 placed 3rd Overall
  • Dale placed 1st on the final day and won the most prizes overall by placing 5 times
In addition to its competitive accolades, +SJR+ is also home to some of the most respected livestreamers of MechWarrior Online.

Steel Jaguar is a highly competitive team. We will consider only members who share our competitive hunger and our dedication to success, teamwork, and personal skill improvement. We expect a high level of activity and attendance as well as a positive, goal-oriented attitude.

We are looking ONLY for members who meet the following:
  • Age 18+ only
  • English speaking
  • TeamSpeak 3 and microphone
  • Willing to use IRC (Internet Relay Chat)
  • Computer currently able to run MechWarrior Online at over 30 FPS
  • High level of activity
  • Play-to-Win mindset
  • Positive, team-oriented attitude
  • Willing to buy MC as needed in order to keep up, competitively
We are extremely selective, so put some time and thought into your application. It would behoove you to visit our chat or TS3 before or shortly after applying, so that we recognize you. The application will automatically post to a private board where all current members of +SJR+ can view it and state their opinions.
Do you think you have what it takes to be a Steel Jag?

Don't be intimidated by our oh-so-glossy fur.

We are a close-knit team, and even though we take our game seriously we have a lot of fun.

We are the best of friends like this and so too can you be:

You know, I was thinking a little bit about how MWO might play out and something came to me. If Merc Corp units are going to be battling for planets, one of the most important aspect to the success of a Merc Corp unit will have to be its ability to win battles. This is a must whether attacking OR defending. So I will just put it out there that the successful Merc Corps will not be the ones that boast numbers, rather the ones that are able to bring the better fight to the battlefield.

For anyone that wants to be a part of a successful Merc Corp not in boasting numbers but in superior team coordination we are the team you need to join.

I agree, Eagle. Large numbers won't indicate success in MWO. That said, a team focused on excellence isn't for everybody. I totally understand gamers who are looking for a social club more than a progress-oriented team.

I do think you can have both, though. ;}

If your idea of fun is honing your skills toward mastery, and enjoying the company of others who feel the same, you need search no more.

We are still recruiting people who are interested in playing MWO competitively. With open beta nearing, we are working to be as prepared as possible to hit the ground running. If you want to be a part of that, please apply.

Other than our competitive experience with MW4, we also have members with competitive experience in Call of Duty, Battlefield, Command and Conquer, World of Warcraft, Doom 3, Unreal Tournament 4, and more. If you've played competitive before, whether a video game or on a physical sport, you know what it takes to try to be the best. And you also know that it can be frustrating to be around people who aren't as focused as you are. That is why we are recruiting specifically for competitive-minded people.

If you are new to competitive play, but you are thinking that maybe you want to play a game and try to be a top player/team, then I highly encourage you to give us a serious look. Perhaps you are wary about the attitudes that occur in a competitive team. We don't allow the negativity here. The best teams that have ever played e-sports (or any type of sport for that matter), have understood that you need to get along, you need to be willing to fight for each other.

I take gaming seriously because its what I enjoy doing. I enjoy trying to figure out how to improve, how to win. I enjoy trying to work with a team to get better. I enjoy that feeling of flow, when the team is just reacting and responding as a unified being. I enjoy the intense matches against other top players/teams.

What does it take to be a competitive Mecher?
- A lot less time than you think (A couple hours a day 4 days a week is much more effective in training neural pathways than 8 hour binges on Saturday.)
- A little more elbow grease than is technically sanitary. (Hard work is fun, when your job is blowing up giant robots.)
- The right environment. (That's your team!)
- The attitude of a winner. (This is the most challenging, and the most important.)

What is the attitude of a winner? I'll let Rocky explain.

No BS, no excuses, no blame, no lame accusations. Just try to do your best, truly the best you can, and you will be astounded at your success.

Video games are worth playing well. It only makes sense to aim for mastery at what you enjoy - like playing an instrument, or doing martial arts.

Striking a chord? Getting a taste for it yet?

+Steel Jaguar+
This is what fun really is.

This is one part of our vision statement:

Players are aimed at the long-term mastery of the game. Mastery is not based on winning or losing, but in how one plays the game. One can win ugly, and lose while playing extremely well. Mastery does not mean that one is the very best, but means that one has great knowledge and skill. Mastery takes time, lots of time, years. The popular idea of these days is that it takes 10,000 hours of performing a skill to become a master. That's a lot of time in a cockpit.

So maybe you caught the MLG Pro live streams this past weekend from their tournament in Anaheim. And maybe you are thinking that being a 'pro gamer' has an appeal. Okay, so MWO isn't on MLG pro circuit, and who knows if there will ever be money tournaments, but if you want to play with other competitive-minded people, who have the desire and motivation to be a top team, then check us out at SJRGaming.com

Still looking - for YOU!

- We aren't '100 members strong'. We don't want to be.
- We aren't slapping a uniform on anything that holds still long enough. That's not us.
- If you're looking for a close-knit team experience, feel you have something of value to offer a team (this can even be as simple as a calm and sane outlook), and care about your level of success in your game, give us a look.

How to tell if +SJR+ is right for you:

- Do you value yourself and your abilities?
- Do you care about constantly improving your skills?
- Do you feel your game is worth playing among winners?
- Are you seeking a close-knit team and some new frands?!

If you answered "yes" to all four of these, go check out our Application Form and see if you can be arsed to fill it out. If it's too long and scary, or some other excuse, hit the X in the upper right corner of your browser.

We are selective, but if that intimidates you, it's working as intended.
Don't settle for the easy route. This team exists for those who are driven to excel.

(Disclaimer to the whiny whingys: I'm recruiting. It's propaganda. It's bound to get a little thick in here. Also I need to entertain myself somehow.)
