*uses mind powers to make teh devs put all his fave mechs in the game* and now only a Dervish and a Blitzkrieg to complete the set! Although I think the blitz would be out of era IIRC. can still get a dervish though!

I kinda get what your saying but I only agree half way. I couldn't begin to imagine a jenner punching, but an Atlas.. its got hands for a reason. So rather then hachets and swords only, I would only have hands as the base requirement. An Atlas able to kick would certainly make it harder for a jenner to run around under its belly, I don't really see any kicking restriction tho.

I agree, but I think that was built into the game mechanic, as a jenner (If I'm remembering correctly) does not have hand or lower arm actuators, so it was not 'allowed' to punch anyway. I think you had to have all working arm actuators (and possibly even hands) in order to punch attack, and it was your tonnage/10 in damage, so it wasn't really huge damage anyway (plus you had to forgo using arm mounted weapons) but it hit only the upper damage locations so you had a much higher chance of hitting the head. Kicks were tonnage/5 so it hit alot harder, but would only hit legs (not that that is a bad thing!)

and as for Neodym's example of the archangel, that is a mech from a WAAAY later tech-era, there are no retractable blades (or plasma cannons for that matter) in 3050, but I do get your point, and agree.

As we've stated before... IF this makes it in, it is a long ways out. There are a lot more important things to focus on before melee. Charging and DFA are both confirmed. Nothing else is on the table at the moment.

Instead of locking this thread I'll let you all speculate all you want on the matter because we're going to make this the dumping grounds for all things melee for all the new people coming to the forums.

thank you sir, that's all this was meant to be, just to get a feeling of what the community at large felt about it.

Poll isn't setup properly. If you answer the first, you HAVE to answer the second. You need to add a 3rd option to the second question that says that you selected "No Melee" in the first.

Fixed, thanks

WifiN... Umm, those are not traditional Battletech attacks, punches kicks, clubs and later 'hatchets' were in the core game, not counting all the goofyness that the L3 rules (or whatever they're called now) added to it.

Nacon... a HAND is awkward? so... you dont like picking things up or manipulating them in any meaningful way?
(also, I was going to ignore it, but your post on autocannons in the previous thread is also way off, autocannons fire shells, generally explosive filled, not solid bullets, and if the metal of a rifled barrel heated up to the point of expansion, the inside diameter of the barrel would get smaller, causing a tighter grip on the projectile, not loosen it. and if it heated to the point of disabled, you'd actually have to replace the barrel, not just wait for it to cool down (this happens IRL), I dont mean to sound nit-picky (although I often come off that way) but when someone quotes "facts" in an online text environment, they should at least check them first.)

Also hands (and hand actuators) was a part of mech construction in battletech, mechs without hands couldn't use them to (uproot a tree and use it as a club, for example) but you got two extra slots to play with. and although I believe they were mostly unseen designs, there were several mechs with hands AND a big gun on that arm, and they were modeled like they were holding a big rifle. The phoenix hawk was like that if memory serves correctly.

I also didn't interpret it as much of 'kung fu' more like giant robot smashing things with it's multi-ton arm or leg. I never pictured it as very graceful.... and in fact, I believe if you miss a kick, you have to make a pilot skill roll or fall down :P

In Topic: Who else is playing FRR solely to troll Clan fanboys

The problem I have with the clans is that their advantages were supposed to be balanced out by a strict code of conduct. thing is, powergamers dont have that same code, nor even the social constructs from which the code was founded. they just see the bonus stats and go "YAY! more PEW PEW!" then totally disregard clan behavior limitations.
