How do battles work?

20 June 2012 - 01:27 AM

Hi
I played the first couple of Mech games back in the 90s on a friend’s PC as at the time I did not have one and totally loved the whole Mech thing. I was totally rubbish at them mind as I pretty much was with all games at that time. The first one I played properly was Heavy Gear (which I guess is probably swearing here) and while still not great I did start to understand the whole Mech concept a little better. After that I sort of dropped off the scene as kids came along and family life sort of got in the way of fun. I got back into the good old game scene when I started playing Planetside. While not Mech the whole online co-op play got me and I was hooked and have been playing online games with friends ever since.

I joined the beta of WoT (swearing again) and over the last 18 months have played it whenever I can. It was from there I heard about Mech Warrior (well PC mags first but the first real link was their forum). While I know that it has some very bad points relating to how the game is moving forward it does have some very good points and is a great game. Which leads me to a question I seem unable to find the answer to.

How do you join a battle and can to play as part of a squad/platoon as you can in WoT so you get to play with friends?
To me the ability to make a platoon/squad with people and play is probably the single most important aspect of online gaming so I am interested how this game is going to handle it?

Also the battle/game dynamics. Are the battles faction lead? By this what I mean is do you play house against house or is it just 2 teams against each other?

I hope I have not trodden on too many toes and look forward to any info and help offered.
Thanks in advance.
