Radgor Ryan was a native of the old penal colony of Botany Bay. He was the illegitimate product of Redjac Ryan's wave of rapine piracy that plagued the system with all too much regularily. He had a tough upbringing, even by Periphery standards; Inner Sphere residents would descibe him as the worst kind of scum. By the age of 10 he was a petty thief, by 15 he was running his own streetgang. At 17, when a band of drunken bandits held his settlement for ransom, he and his gang stole an entire lance of Battlemechs and exacted their revenge. Stories are told even today of the night he chased the pirates through the centre of town, incinerating them with laser fire.

Unwilling to hand over his newly acquired prizes, he instead sought passage offworld and offered their services as mercenaries. The only place hiring such an unruly and ill disciplined lance was Hendrik Grimm III's Obereon Confederation. Serving with the Grimm Reapers in unsavory population control actions, the unit also saw limited action with the newly founded Free Rasalhague Republic in the Ronin Wars. Indeed, their drunkeness and debauchery while assigned to garrison worlds gave mercenaries a bad reputation throughtout the Republic.
