grayson marik: You said, "Private matches will be implemented, but not in a way players are probably thinking. We are still working out ways to make this feasible. No ETA." Have we ( the other league/tournament creators and me) wasted our time creating the stuff we created?

A: We plan to create and host a variety of tournaments, challenges, and official MWO league. At this time we are not sanctioning or encouraging players to create independent leagues.
I CERTAINLY hope that the current attitude towards player-run leagues changes. There is so much more potential for players to do what they want if they have the power to do so rather than following the whims of the central authority.

All in all, though, I think this game is doing far better than so many skeptics are saying. It hasn't been ruined and PGI is doing a fine job considering the task. I would have wanted something more like MW: Living Legends (a larger, more Battlefield-esque game environment), but I feel like the current model is suited fine for the wider audience (although that whole MW:LL ceasing development fiasco is a shame).

I remember a game that was supposed to simulate the universe, and the development of life within it. Pretty much be what this game is describing, except it wasn't an MMO.

It was called Spore. And it did not exactly deliver on what everyone thought it'd be.

So forgive me if I'm skeptical. Trust me, I'd sure love to see a game like this. But I'm exceedingly doubtful it can be done.

Ah Spore, I remember that game. It's true that it didn't even approach what I expected it to be, but it was still one of my favorites

Nostalgia aside, that's exactly what I'm worried about. I think it's impossible to deliver the ambitions that the creators have now (looks like a freakin' big bite to chew!), but I'm betting something beautiful in one way or another will come of it. And if not, I'm glad this idea will have been tried. Anyway, it can't hurt to sign up and see how things turn out!

DOOOOOOON

Yeah, Dune is a great book. I've read the original three, through Children, and I've been lazy about the fourth - it's sitting in my room all lonely - and it is a genius book series. I've heard that a new Dune movie may be in the works, but it seems like it'd be impossible to get right in a movie. There are so many thoughts in the character's heads that simply can't be portrayed in any reasonable way, and Lord knows the first movie doesn't satisfy.

I'm not brushed up on that section of the lore either, but it seems to me that they're just fanatics with a skewed viewpoint and messed-up cause. It seems like there's no reason to like them - and as far as narrative characters go, that's what you need: a reason to like them, not a reason to dislike them. Voldemort and the Joker are both great and rather deep characters on top of their moral wrongs.

As far as hating that part of the Battletech timeline, I suppose it could be because ComStar just so happens to have a huge stock of 'mechs that they decide to bring out just now and is never mentioned before, which seems like a weak story link in my opinion.

Also, using nukes in lieu of giant walking tanks isn't only morally questionable; it's just an uncool replacement to rocking and socking in battlemechs.

Kratos (or Cratus), God of Power & Strength, if Greek myth names count.
