OP is right on but should expect backlash. Why? Because if it isn't game balance then some players will have to admit they are just plain bad. And for some special snowflakes that possibility doesn't exist.
All PvP games will be imbalanced to some degree due to variability in player skill.

Still have all my old, falling apart Mechwarrior books and box sets. Looking forward to the expansion of this game as much as I look forward to expanding the glorious Chairman's empire.

This is what got me. Missle spam from 1000M and every hit went to the center torso. I was moving, using cover, but when they hit it was CT every time. I was cored without ever seeing my adversay even though I was trying to avoid their shots.
In Topic: Do We Need A Mode Without Bases?

How about modes that actually use the bases but in a different ways?
Forest colony and/or Caustic Valley: Currently a structure on one side. How about making it destructible and have an attack/defend game mode? If a defending mech makes it to the attackers drop zone it brings back a defender to the defense area. (Lockout rules on how often a singlre mech can do this)
Frozen City: See that dropship in the middle? Only way off the planet and two recovery teams are fighting to be the ones on it. First team to recover one of each resource, scattered throughout the crash zone, and return them to the dropship wins. Reverse dodgeball rules, you get a resource to the ship the other side gets a person back (accounting for afkers).
Just idea to mixup the play and reward different playstyles. Kind of bored with the stick together and bring the most firepower failsafe strategy.

Single point in middle, defend and hold to cap.
