For those wondering. I did some basic analysis. If you conduct a search of players, the MWO page sorts them by 20 players per page. As of the day / time I conducted my research / posted this post : we have 26352 pages of registered users on the forums. Meaning 527,040 players have "registered" to MWO. Im not debating who is playing or who is not playing because frankly, we will never know. Since "17 Sep 2013" based on date joined there have been 4184 "new registered users" on MWO. This is based on the 210 "pages" from 17 Sep 2013 to the most recent registered user, minus 16 because the last page only had 4 names. For me, it is 6pm, 22 Sep 2013. Roughly 114 hours since "release" using midnight to midnight timeframes...114 x 60 minutes = 6840 minutes since release. 6840 / 4184 = 1.63 users registering per minute since release...
Technically, one new member every 2 minutes is correct. But lets read between the lines. MWO says there are more people playing than are registered on the forums. Yet, if that were true, in the above case, then the number of "new players" per hour would be significantly higher, no? Now I am not arguing that there are people who play the game who do not have user profiles, but I believe these people are rare. I believe 90+% of the population is registered and/or accounted for here on the forums via profiles. Using this theory, we can go back and say 527,040 players "have accounts" for MWO + / - 10% or an additional 52, 700 players, so lets say 575,000 players total in 2 years timeframe total (counting its announcement).
Again we are NOT arguing who is still playing because its impossible to gauge. You can only use information to analyze based on what that information tells you, everything else is speculation. So, I know a majority of the 1st Blackburn Raiders have been playing MWO since June 2012, mostly because of the founders packages. (side note, Our unit no longer actively plays MWO. We will re-assess the game at a later date, but for the moment, 1st BBR has moved on.) Open beta was available in Nov 2012. I dont remember the exact date. We are close to Nov 1st (approximately one week away) so lets just say, the community has had full access to MWO for 365 days, or 8760 hours, 525,600 minutes. lets take all the "newly registered" users out of the community for a second. All 4184 of them. I am not going to count the "ghost members" (those who are not registered on the forums) for the ease of consistency. Lets also take all the time prior to release and check the numbers.
- 525,600 minutes MINUS, 6840 minutes since release = 518,760 minutes.
- 527,040 members MINUS 4184 = 522,858 members
- 522,858 members / 518,760 MINUTES = 1.0078996....with more numbers.
So comparing the number of players per minute from open beta right up to "so-called release" to "after so-called release", we have 1.63 - 1.00 = .63 LESS members registering per minute.
Hope that helps.Sorry for the bad structure, there is a bug with the MWO forums which makes it impossible for me to hit "enter" to go to the next line.....this is copy and paste from word.
There i 'fixed' that for you...
