We need a "Battle Value" System.
Just like in table top.
1.4 "double" heat sinks is a little dumb. I get why they were done when they were done but... pft.
The current economic system doesn't really promote premium.
I say, implement a BV system, and make battles payout a multiplier of that. If people go all Hunchies with small lasers, there should be a bonus to that team.
If we're not going to match BV, maybe we should reward the "innovators" who took a risk.
We need a system that rewards the unconventional.
Too many ECM Ravens with DDC backing them up right now.
About Me
I've been playing BattleTech games since 1997, when my friend introduced me to the universe by dragging me out to a game shop one weekend. I've loved it ever since. Twice a month we'd get together the night before to pick our units (up to 4, 4000bv). He'd have to coach me for the first few months but, once I learned the basics, I was hooked.
Later, my father bought me Mechwarrior 2 for PC, and I fell in love again. I can't even begin to fathom the hours lost in my budding youth to that particular piece of software. Then there was MechCommander 2! GAH
Military service was served, college was attended and when I returned home, I reminisced with the same friend who started it all and thought, "Why hasn't someone coded the TT rules in to a game?" A forum response later, I discovered MegaMek, and began a 8 year relationship with a community that drew me further into not just the lore but the ruleset, and then fan-fiction! GenCon Followed! I critted Randal's Highlander with a stray swarm missle! Even got corrected when, not knowing who he was, I tried to explain how Swarm-i works.
Life once again tore me away from my passion, and intermittently I wondered, "Why is there not enough BattleTech in this universe?" Then, as if to answer my question, MWO appeared, with it's brother, MechWarrior: Tactics.
And I'm freakin' Pumped.
If you played the MegaMek servers, you'll recognize me as Alekzandr/Alekzandr Sukhanov/Rodrigo Diaz. If that seems even remotely familiar, I expect a friends request.

Game Type Suggestions - What would you like to see?
14 July 2012 - 04:20 PM
I really can not wait until the NDA is no longer needed and most of us are playing the game because, until then, it's a near endless sea of speculative discussions about our hopes, dreams and desires, occasionally peppered with the obligatory nerd rage spawned from wild unfounded assumptions.
So, until that glorious day, I will contribute to this churning sea of ?'s and statements! WEEEEEEEEEeeeeee!
Did a quick search and found no topic pertaining. At least, none that floated to the top of my query. If it exists... oh well, I guess I'm that guy.
To the meat!
What game modes would we like to see? I know currently games modes included something like 8v8 TDM with perhaps some objectives like "Shoot their generators" and then the Dropship mode that was mentioned. From what I'm feeling, games last about 8mins, on avg. I think they're on 15min timers.
I'd like to eventually see a potentially longer mission type. Something in the 30min range. Maybe a 3 to 5 checkpoint point capture (HPGs?). Maybe each point/HPG you control could increase you sensor range by 2.5% (arbitrary # meant to give small advantage but keep play balanced enough) due to improved communications. This game mode works well with ticket based gametypes but might not work too well with one 1 life gametypes. Either a ticket system or 3-life limit might help it out, or, larger teams and a spectator mode alla (get ready, I'm going to say it) World of Tanks (relax, I also mentioned Battlefront round-about-like).

MWO website improperly loading
06 July 2012 - 06:42 PM
I would have posted this in Off topic -> Website Support but... it wouldn't let me start a new thread... oddly.
I haven't seen anyone else complaining about this`but for about the last 30mins or so, when I've been trying to just generally browse the site and forums I'll get a:
"Oops! Google Chrome could not find mwomercs.com"
And before you trash Google Chrome... You're wrong.
Regardless, I recognize this could be a browser issue as that not all sites play nice with Chrome but, I've got 5 tabs open (MW: Tactics, Kotaku, Escapist, The Vile Facebook, and this one; duh) and none of the other sites are having this issue, nor have I ever seen this happen with this site before now.
Typically, right after attempting a reload of the page I'll see the site loads up as if it were hosted by GeoCities circa 2001. No background image, basic text and links, occasional "gif". So difficult to navigate that I wonder how I ever used the internet prior to HTML 2.0, then, out of nowhere, BAM... all-swell for the next couple mins.
Again, None of the other sites I'm browsing seems to be having the same issue.
'course, I'm no cpu guru. Just an old veteran of the interwebz. Just curious if something is happening that I'm unaware of... like something awesome! Like everyone is spamming their reload button in anticipation of some announcement I missed?
...or maybe they're just migrating hosts [shrugs]
...or maybe I shouldn't have had onions on my sandwhich, and they're trying to tell me something.
I don't know. I just know I'm having this issue tonight. Any ideas?
Also, if this needs to be migrated to Web Support, that would be cool. Have no idea why I can't post there.

Clan Tech is Perfect: We need BV
29 June 2012 - 10:33 PM
Oppossing post. BV is necessary. Pilot levels an in known.
How do we rectify?
I say; Take K/D into account.
BV on mechs is brilliant, but how do we modify considering pilot skill?
K/D plus wins/Plus Team score? Do we take a Battlefield response?
Are we wanting a strong commander role?
Commanders. Something worth defending, or throw always?

AeroTech Online - What would it be like?
28 June 2012 - 06:15 PM
Yep. It's getting close to quitting time and I'm pretty bored. So, of course it's time for an offtopic post!!!
Never really got into table top aerotech. They did bring it to MegaMek so, the majority of my experiences revolve around that. Pretty fun. I preferred the advanced movement rules to the traditional. Anyways...
What say we all to being an aerospace pilot? I'm thinking something along the lines of Tie Fighter (vs X-Wing). Pop into your aerospace fighter and take to the void. Maybe deploying from a carrier. Dogfighting against assault, heavy, medium, lights aerofighters?
I think it'd be pretty boss. Been dying for another space combat title like Tie Fighter. Loved how they joystick interfaced work. Much better than Wing Commander handled it, imho.
Or, would we be looking for something more MechWarrior: Tactics.
I'd put dollars down on the space sim variant. Wonder if the markets too weak. Hard to tell. Tie Fighter's been out a while and I haven't noticed anyone try recently (fill me in if I'm missing one).
PEW PEW!
