My sister will start a study in Q4 this year so I was looking at laptops in the 14inch range which she prefers. We are not looking at high end as she won't need that, but she wants a good general use piece for around 500-700euro.

When I brought my laptop I went with samsung for the best bang for buck, but their batteries seem to be terrible and they don't seem to hold up to well to long extended use (mine is 3 years old and on its last legs). So I was looking a Lenovo right now, but not certain.

So if any of you have some suggestions or directions it would help, I am pretty certain with desktops now, but laptops bit of a different field specially when we are not talking gaming

Sigh to put it simple something keeps going wrong during my driver installation now I have 2 cards. I been through the process 5 times now followed the following guide:

And still I got this:




Power is all fine, both cards have fans spinning. GPU-Z detects 2 cards, but has little data on the first and even less on number 2 see here:




Both are 7970 cards, 1x Sapphire Vapor x and 1x Powercolor PCS+ Vortex 2

Any porgrmas like Sapphire Trixx and MSI afterburner have been uninstalled before this all. Strange thing is this does run full 1080p res?


Really hope anyone here can help me to get this fixed.

MWO just popped back into my play field after I just totally forgot about it which is kinda stupid seeing I spend money on a founders pack even! And now I am trying hard to learn my ways in the game, currently focusing on a 3l Raven.

The FRR caught my eye since the first time I dropped around here, small underdog faction with lots of trouble in future it fits the kind of story I like. That said I still have a lot to learn about the full history and everything, probably just as much as I have to learn about being any good.

So I am looking for a house unit that can both help me with getting into the lore (prior to MWO all I have played was MW 4 vengeance) and be more effective in the game itself. I have access to the voice coms where needed that is no issue.

This is just something that hit me as I was playing PS2 tonight enjoying my last day of artifacts (tomorrow new GPU will go in) and it seemed somehow logical in a way.

I mean when you go crossfire the vram is not shared as far as I understand, so if I only use 1 monitor, hook it up to a card that is totally fine and put the card with the bad vram in crossfire would that work without getting any issues? It is a bit of a long shot, but if it works it would be a really nice way to keep using this GPU with the damaged vram.

Seeing my current rig was pretty much build from the advice from here I come back once more. My current powercolor card is in trouble seeing the vram is damaged. I OC the card keeping a close eye on the temps and the vram temps never got close to 70C, so I assume bad quality vram or a faulty temp sensor as 65C should be enough to damage vram at least not to anything I have read. Anyhow OC means no more warranty so I am looking for a new card.

I pretty much set my eyes on one of these:

MSI GTX680 Lightning

550 euro (perhaps elsewhere would be cheaper, I am Dutch)

or the:

msi r7970 lightning boost edition

495 euro (perhaps elsewhere would be cheaper?)


I game on a single 1080p monitor, not playing to get more as my desk space is limited and I never really enjoyed the 3 screen setups. Hardware wise there is nothing that will hinder it, Z77 chipset, I3770k at 4.5, 16 gigs of ram, 850w psu.

I am just looking to see which of these two card (or perhaps and entirely different) card you would advice I take.
