Just as info for those who don't know the player counter: the client had a player counter with ever decreasing numbers and was suddenly removed for dubious reasons (consumes too much bandwidth).
Then players started to theorize and making connections to the account numbers and the ever falling number of new accounts/forum users.
Then we got word from god that the game was doing fine but they won't give us numbers because we would interpret them differently. Too lazy to search the post, topic was locked shortly thereafter.
Also take a look at the beginning of the game: Nvidia Tournaments, Nvidia Cockpit Items. Now take a look at the Nvidia-Homepage: you can't find MW:O there, they just advertise WoT, Hawken and Planetside 2 as F2P-Games.
Interpretation is yours.

Missiles explode after reaching max range. You can observe it when you are in a mech that is under LRM-fire on your own, the missiles plop right in front of you.
Of course no one is using missiles nowadays, so maybe it has changed.

Mechwarrior was never supposed to be a game with pinpoint-accuracy. It was always about missing shots and hitting random locations.
Now we are trained to aim at center torso. This can't work.
Mechs are finished way faster then before. Only reason overall gametime has not decreased is because more time is consumed for maneuvers and just waiting for the enemy to make the first move. When the fighting starts it's over pretty fast, the Alpha-builds land their strikes and then one side gets the advantage. The rest of the match is about cleaning up the rest of the enemy team.
Problem is that we want a different game than PGI wants. They want to make this more like Hawken now, that's at least the impression I get.

Most AFKlers are probably just victims of a bug.

@NRP
2 Alphas before shutdown, enough for 80 points of damage against a light.
