so I would rather learn to do this efficiently on my own, but I am looking to Identify which mechs tend to have Ballistic or Energy Hardpoints that are mounted high on the mech. Examples being Jagermechs and Riflemans cause their main guns are their arms. Is there a way to do this with out having to look at every chassis and every varient in game in either the mechlab or the store?

Only some 'Mechs have main hardpoints above cockpit, and they are usually easy to identify - high collar of guns on Roughneck or ST-mounted autocannons on Blood Asp are very prominent examples, same with "missile ears" of Catapult and Mad Cat.

Most used mechs usually have most important weapons mounted in torso. You can pretty much assume that most 'Mechs can shoot you when half of their torso out, same going for high-mounted arms - like Ebon Jaguar, Shadow Cat or Cicada. Only few 'Mechs - like Cataphract or Orion - have troubles with low-mounted torso hardpoints.

Low-slung arms usually don't deserve any serious firepower and serve for secondary weapons at best. Rare exceptions with main hardpoints in the arms - like Phoenix Hawk - are pretty easy to identify.

In general, you should always assume torso-mounted weapons as mains, or look at prominent features of the 'Mech to identify it's main caliber, like Centurion's AC arm and torso-mounted missiles, or clan "six lasers in one hand" hands, and aim to destroy it first to neuter the opponent.

Look at the mech when you equip weapons. If the weapons appear high on the mech, they are high mounts. If you still aren't sure, take it to testing grounds and try to shoot over various heights of cover that is right infront of your mech to see if your weapons fire over them. Additionally, keep in mind that the mounts' apparent height will be in reference to your cockpit height, but low cockpits or mechs with "bunny ears" suffer from being unable to see the enemy mechs while still being exposed.

I think the ANH-1P does. It has them below the cockpit at the top of the chest area.

You could flip through the mech list in your profile to get a ROUGH idea by looking at them. But it won't tell you how much space there is, or how many of those weapons you can mount.

Low weapons can be VERY annoying in some maps. Like polar highlands where your hanging arm/hand lasers just shoot the hill in front of you.

It's important to note that high mounted hardpoints aren't that useful if the cockpit isn't high enough to let you see what you're aiming at. The Stormcrow kinda has that problem with its missiles.

Some high weapon hardpoints are only available after other weapons have been put into the section, an example being the Black Knight that has 3 Energy Hardpoints in the Right Torso, if you put in 2 Lasers then a PPC into the Right Torso, the PPC will be about Shoulder height. Some mechs however do this inverted like Marauders. The first weapon in the Right Torso goes above the head for the cannon, then goes down the side.

Those mechs do have high mounts, but in most cases arm mounts are a lot lower. And you need to be careful with those arm mounts because arms can get shot off pretty easily.

To do this efficiently, you could start with smurfy & see which mechs have the mounts that you're looking for. Then u can use the in-game store, customize the mech without buying it, and then use the "camo spec" or whatever it's called, to actually look at the hardpoint locations.

For high energy mounts: RGH-3A, WHM-6D, some grasshoppers, hellbringers, battlemasters, stalkers, ANH-1P, SNV-C, MCII-1. Maybe some thunderbolts & the AWS-8Q. Avoid warhawks & black knights.

Ballistics: WHM-6R, TNS-5S, VTR-9A1, CP-S, Corsairs, Maulers, ANH-2A, Blood Asps, night gyrs, maybe sun spiders, jagers, riflemen (IS & clan)
