Now that the February 19th patch increased the max engine allowable on a yen-lo-wang up from 280 to 300 (see http://mwomercs.com/...12190-19022013/), is it possible to fit an XL300 engine in it?
I've saved up enough c-bills for an Atlas AS7-K, but before dropping that many c-bills I'd want to be absolutely sure I could use components such as the XL300 engine in both that Atlas and the YLW.
I keep reading sad remarks about the AS7-K compared to the AS7-D-DC, or even compared to any other Atlas. Makes me wonder how soon an AS7-K buff, -D-DC nerf, or new hero/variant announcement will happen, and how much buyer's remorse I'd feel if I got the AS7-K now.
Noob talking here. My only mechs are a Raven-3L and that YLW.
Suggestions?

Teach a man to fish.
My number one source for mech information is Smurfy http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/
Scroll down to the YLW, check it's engine rating under the "engines" column. you can also use the Mechlab link on the top to test-build your mech.
Don't buy an Atlas 7K just for the 300xl engine. Buy the 300xl for 4.9 mil.

Yes, you can do the 300XL on the YLW. The reason that atlases other than the -D-DC are frowned upon is becuase it can't mount ECM, and it's hardpoints are a little weak.
I definitely agree with this statement. If you get an atlas, there are other variants with better hardpoints.

AS7-K atlas is a hunk of junk. don't buy it, as they said just pick up the engine you want. the Hardpoints are garbage compared to the Atlas-D which is closest in build to it.
I also highly recommend Smurfy's online mech builder. its great for theory building!

Suggestion: do you want another mech to change gameplay a bit that comes with a 300 xl? Go with the newly released trebuchet 3C.
Don't waste cbills on the AS7-K. Any other variant it's better than that pile of junk, it's useful only if you want to place dual AMS on it and strip the engine to use it elsewhere.
However like others said, if you just need that engine, simply buy it straight away. You'll save cbills for another future mech faster

xl300 is very do-able with the YLW. If u pop in ES and FF you have 22.5T left over for weapons and full armour. Go nuts.

Get a CN9-D with the free XL300 engine in it, and ditch that Atlas. You'll also have a second 'Mech to grind Elite on your YLW.
That engine can be used, albeit with variable results, pretty much anywhere: Catapults, Cataphracts, Stalkers, Awesomes, Dragons...

This too.. but safest mechs are Catapults and Dragons.. Stalkers and Awesomes are more suicidal with that engine

Thanks for linking me to smurfy's, everyone. I wasn't sure how to check that it'd been updated with the latest patch notes, and the microsoft excel mechlab hadn't been updated yet back when I checked earlier this week. Glad both exist and get updated reasonably fast.
The poster above guessed what I did with my c-bills last night back when this thread had only 2 posts. By the end of this weekend's bonus on hero mech c-bills, I expect to have plenty of mech XP on the YLW just waiting to use on higher pilot lab tiers, so I might as well start the process to unlock those.

I didn't realize the 9-D had a 300xl stock, that is, of course, the perfect solution! +1 Centurion to grind plus the big fat engine you wanted.
