Did you miss the whole point of the post? In a light 'Mech, to use the streak missiles, the game becomes and ECM duel to try to get your missiles to work.

That's why people think the Raven is overpowered, which is the whole topic of this thread.

But nevermind people, this dude just figured it out. LRM and outrange the Ravens, problem solved.

They wont "fix it" because it is functioning the way it should now that the lag shield is a not a issue

Right now with a noob pilot, the 3L is as good as 4+ other experienced pilots with light hunting loadouts.

Exactly - Back in Closed Streaks were not as all-powerful as they are now, and even without ECM, you would see a healthy mix of laser-lights, streak-lights and SRM-lights.

(It doesn't matter that they were nearly all Jenners, as the Jenner and Commie were the only two Lights at the time, and Streak-mandos weren't unknown either)

Now? It's all Raven, all the time and that's solely because of how powerful Streaks are, and because ECM lets you use them.


If Streaks went back to how they were before Open Beta, you would see a much wider diversity in Light mechs, both in chassis and loadouts, because then you'd be able to tailor your Light to specific roles (spotting, scouting, striking, duelling, etc..)

Back then a Laser-light could 1v1 a Streak-light and it could genuinely go either way - even with a worse lagshield than we have now.

Now it's not even a fight, if you haven't brough Streaks and ECm you're not worth being a light - The odd person now & again makes a valiant effort to say "I do ok in my Jenner-SRM/Death's Knell/Spider/etc.." but the second they get into a real match it's all over.
There's a very sound reason why no team worthy of the name would bring a non-Raven light to a match unless it's troll-tastic night and they're drunk.

But until that wondrous day comes, then I'm sorry but get your useless backside in that f'king Raven and don't even think about bringing a different Light to the table.

There are no Light pilots any more - Just Raven pilots, and everybody else.

its funny cuz out of all the non-ECM mechs. the jenner has the best shot at killing the 3L.
its the non ECM ravens, spiders, and commandos that get screwed.


those varients are not fielded anymore. 4/5 of ravens are 3Ls (and thats only because people need to get their efficiencies up). i think theres a problem.

Correct, but out of a johnny on your head, a baseball-cap, or a plastic bucket, the bucket has the best shot at stopping a headshot.

Still doesn't mean you'd equip your soldiers with buckets instead of combat helmets..

A friend of mine finally broke his pride and bought a Raven 3L.

Kitted it out with 3 MLAS, 1 SRM6 and a Streak 2 and he managed 500+ damage a match no problem with 1-3 kills average. He wasn't even trying. Simply put, its too easy to win with that thing and I still refuse to pilot one myself because I genuinely believe most 3L pilots are...not people I'd associate with.

If I HAD to pilot one though, I'd definitely be up in people's grill spamming that its 4:20, blaze it, I'm an MLG Pro and that the enemy team needs to get on my level. Oh and that I smoke weed every day. Hashtag YOLOSWAG

We may not have been playing the same game... Streaks were an absolute menace back in closed, especially with the screen shake they had for so long. The few times when streaks weren't so bad was also usually when the balance on some other weapon was messed up.

This was back when they had lag shield too. So I might be able to take on 2 now, but any more is getting dangerous. But if 2 Raven's are contending with me, than it means 2 less people my team has to fight.

Maybe, but an able pilot in any mech is better than a less-skilled one in a different mech. I've lost count of the Jenner's I've killed in my COM's...

Pre-ECM you were laughed out of the room for bringing a Raven to a light fight. Even the Commandos got more respect.
