I would like to say thanks to all the players that take the time to chat with me about BT lore or Mechwarrior i really never understood how big the Mechwarrior/BT/TT/Novels/Minatures/Xbox IP'S were.I know PGI is trying to make a great game and for the most part im really having a great time playing MWO.I only ask PGI to reconsider what i have grown to know from talking with old vets on comms or in chat or reading on the internet websites that i want what the old games had to offer as far as Multiplayer.A huge chat room to BS with everyone the ability to be part of a good team and drop and play and train on maps like they did.The ability to compete in a stock or custom mech in ladder leagues or a huge planetary league.Run BY PGI i dont care i grind away thinking about this why? becouse it would be super fun and exciting to do.If you feel the same way or can tell me more about your experiances in Mechwarrior2-Mechwarrior4 i would be glad to hear it. ^_^

It was not so much about a huge chat room, but the game did revolve around teams competing either in tournaments or in planetary conquest. Solo drops a.k.a. "open servers" were really just for people to warm up prior to league matches or to do something goofy for fun. You can still look at NBT-HC league rules and see the level of complexity MW veterans are so nostalgic about.

Another thing I valued greatly back in the day with my first MechWarrior game (MW2:Mercenaries), were the training levels, The videos explain a lot but I LOVED being trained by "Deadeye"

"Shoot me even once, and I'll tear that beercan YOU call a Mech into scrap." ^_^

MechWarrior 4 was special for me; it was the first time I ever took part In a co-op mission over the Internet (Dial Up). I had arranged to join a small group of lights which one of my soldier colleagues had worked with on several occasions. On joining the battle I could see flashes over the horizon so headed for them. As I appeared on the top of the hill side a message came over the chat line "You W**k**, have you seen yourself". I flicked to 3rd person and there I was A pure Gold Atlas on the hill side. I didn't read the bit about selecting colours in online match's. A lesson learned, but what a laugh; we talk about it to this day.

Rose colored glasses and all. This is a better experience in most respects. It will get even better. There was quite a bit of cheese in the old games during online play.

I will say, however, that launching without some type of lobby was a pretty big mistake.

however terrible the chance of getting your MW 3 to launch successfully back in the days of zone lobby...we need to reapproach these roots.

NBT-HC site is http://www.netbattletech.com/nbt-mp3/, don't know if it's still playable though. Regarding MW4, I'd recommend getting NBT (MekTek) version of it instead of vanilla one if you still can - it has more mechs and is much better balanced in terms of damage, heat, hardpoints, etc.

Edit:

Poked around NBT site a bit - looks like MW4 download is still available.

You are very welcome, and yes, it was a blast and people played it literally for years.

sadly when MW2 - 4 were on their hightimes, the internet in germany was taking it´s babysteps and i didn´t even know about "multiplayer online"stuff

my first online experience was Dark Age of Camelot when it was already close to it´s first addon in 2002...

i´m really jealous of all you guys who enjoyed MPBT and all that stuff, wish i knew about it back then ;)
