But dude, the games where everyone was on the leaderboards were pretty freaking epic. They were like the games everyone promised me ELO would give us.

Games where even just a few leaders were in was freaking awesome!

Had some really good matches, and some stomps (both ways). Mainly, if you got a good team, you won. If you got newbies with no skill...you lost. simple as that. I don't know that ELO played a big part this weekend (does not feel like it to me, anyway.

I know we all had many matches where you did twice as much damage as anyone else, and still lost the match. Happened all the time to me.

Correct. They do not match equal ELO players...they match the total team ELO. This means if you are crazy high, you are more likely to get a crazy low ELO on your team to even it out. Stupid but PGI logic for you.

Also, the match maker does not try to balance weight so you are also just as likely to get 5 lights while the other team gets 5 assaults so ELO is only partof the game outcome.

Oooooh.

That would explain some things. I had a conversation with someone this weekend where I insisted that Elo was NOT turned back on yet. It couldn't possibly be with the stuff I was seeing.

Makes me want to start a blog... Adventures in the Underhive.

I didn't really take the "tournament" that seriously--I just did what I usually would have done on a normal weekend with a new mech. I dropped 100% with Trebuchets, enough to unlock all Elites, which may or may not have negatively affected my score. Admittedly, I played an hour extra Sunday night to secure my ranking... :P

You can glean "some" skill from the rankings, though the number of matches played does increase your ranking the more extreme the number. Several people below me played more games, won more, lost less, but my score was fairly higher. I'm not sure the score is accurate, or that I'm any better than the people below me, but there's at least some information there to see where you stand relative to others. I do like the idea of taking the "best of" matches to determine rankings.
