Any suggestions?

Playstyle:
  • 2 LLs, stay on max range and behind cover against hardhiters.
  • 3 SSRM2 -> Close range support against lights / all
  • JJs for mobility, cover, houses etc -> Main reason why 7M
  • TAG for supporting your team.
Getting constant good results with it.

Why TAG?

If you're fighting ECM close range, you're not able to lock-on with your missiles.

But if you want to keep on using the streaks, remove the large lasers, and add in ERPPC and 2xmedlasers. Otherwise just switch to srm6.

Remove the TAG and a large laser and heat sink for a PPC/ERPPC. If the heat is too much, drop the other large and replace it with 2 mediums and some sinks.

The reason so is that TAG does not work within ECM range, but a PPC/ERPPC will shut down at least one ECM. If you've more than one Raven on you then you're already in trouble anyways.

I ran 2 LL, 2 SSRM in the one that has 2/2/2 hardpoints, it's fine enough.

My build I'm really loving in the M though is:

XL 300
3xMLAS
2xSSRM
1xLRM15

Functional at all ranges and the 180-270m distance is a heavy alpha.

I got a 7K with 2 ER PPC and 2 SSRM. Yup works.

And if you want to call yourself "support", be advised that every LRMboat who benefits from tag will simply bring their own to the playfield. You still have a considerable long-range punch with the ERppc.

Well he said he's doing support so carrying that tag is pretty good with the return of the missle icon.

Could be more "damaging" then a medium laser.

Yup, but since I don't know the exact value, maybe the med lasers, but I like to TAG things, because people then to shoot on them =)

I prefer something of a hybrid of your build. I find the Trebuchet to be one of the best skirmishers I've piloted yet due to its slender frame and blazing speed (for a medium). Instead of relying solely on SSRM's (which are so easily nullified without a counter to ECM) I build with a few SRM6's:

XL 305
2 SRM 6
1 SSRM 2
1 Large Laser
2 Medium Lasers

What's great about the build that I've found is that the SRM6's give you nice punch against anything above a light and the trio of lasers gives you staying power late into the game after you've fired off all your missiles. The SSRM2 is a lightweight backup system to give an edge against any light without ECM you run across, or a guaranteed 5 damage on any other target.

I've been running a 7K as well and while initially wary of its lack of hardpoints I've found that a build with an LB-10X, two MPL, and 2 SRM4's with an XL280 has been very effective. I play him as interdiction against lights that try to swoop in on my slow assault buddies and it works very well. Only having two missile bays for all 8 of my SRM's scared me a bit at first but the lack of extra tubes makes them come out in a sort of machine-gun pattern, which is fantastic against larger targets because it concentrates the missiles in a smaller area as opposed to the shotgun pattern of most other launchers.

Carrying tag also relies that your team actually brings the LRM. If they don't, well there goes 1 ton and a hardpoint wasted.

And a good LRM user will bring his own tag.

I think we shouldn't hang on the TAG thing.

If I drop with my clan, I bring my tag and normaly I mount in pubic only matches too, because I think it is supporting.

Also: You can be in a other position than you mates LRM lauchner, so you can TAG a target and your mate can still fire indirect.

I would also recommend dropping the TAG, then separate the Large Lasers so its 1 per arm and increase your engine by 1 ton to a 270XL

True, but i was thinking about solo dropping.

Offtopic; I would buy my trenchbucket if i had MC left for bays... Maybe grabbing some more when highlander rumbles in to the scene.

My 7M:

ERPPC, 2 ML, 3 SSRM2s. XL 280, 15 DHS, 304 armor (yeah, a little light but I manage)

My 7K:

ERPPC, PPC, 2 SSRM2s. XL300, 14 DHS, 320 armor.

Have also tried 1 ERPPC, 1 LB 10X AC (2 tons ammo) and 2 SSRM2s with a XL260. A little slower, but still fun.

Anyone have a good 5J build? Still struggling to find one that I really like.

btw. the flamer needs its damage to be nerfed and the heat x8 or more. Would make a great support weapon (stun)

What i think they should do with flamers is, that when you're flaming an enemy mech, it's heat generation from weapons increases by x (say 1.5 or something).

It's not an annoying instant shutdown just like in mw3, or mektek version with inferno missiles, yet still useful (lol ppcboats).

I've fitted my 7M as the following, in an attempt to kill 3Ls:
ERPPC
3x SSRM
XL325
5JJ

Of course, it's still worthless when there's more than 1 enemy ECM light (though I did leg-kill one last time that happened with the ERPPC)
