As I save up for a TBT-7M (and my first TBT), was wondering how may JJ's are needed on a Treb to be effective? Are all 5 necessary or can one get by relatively well with 3 or even 2?

Thanks for any input Treb pilots. S!

If you only want to glide and turn: 1
If you want to jump over things: minimum3, preferably all 5.

Walk in front of an LRM boat 4-man and you'll fly without them.

Thank you for the replies - I am a total newbie to jump jets.
Another question - is it okay to drop down to 40 armor per leg vs. 48 full if using jump jets or is that too foolhardy?

I use four JJs on my 5J. It gets me on top of most medium sized buildings.

40 armor should be more than enough on your legs.

I don't think armor is a structural member. Shouldn't make a difference.

No, what I mean is, that since jumping mechs tend to get hit in the legs a little more often, is it foolish to have 40 pts per leg rather than the full 48 with the Treb?

Yeah, that's fine. Non-issue really. :)

0! if we're asking "necessary"

but seriously, put on 5, go to the testing grounds.
put on 4 go to the testing grounds
put on 3... i think you get my point.

it's what it's there for.

I'd go with 5. And 40 leg armour is fine.

Lowest I go in the legs with my 5J is 31. I run 4 jumpjets just fine.

However, I'm going to assume that you want to use your missile port for raining LRM hellfire, whereas I use my 5J exclusively for energy weapons.

The reason to use the Trebuchet instead of the others 50 tonners (Centurions and Hunchbacks) are jump jets (not even the 30 missile tubes, as you can also shoot 30 LRMs in a single volley off a Centurion). If you want to stick to this chassis there's no reason to skimp on them.

This is your answer. I run 2 JJs on my 7M and it seems perfect... But your mileage may vary.

I would say 4 minimum, but the 5th one is definitley worth it in close qaurters, I use them to outmanuever people and get out of their available vertical pitch in close combat on this loadout:
TBT-7M
With that loadout Im always trying to stay between 180 and 250 meters jumping in and out of cover and focusing on evasion rather than offense... (3l's and 2d's being my primary targets)
Playing that way the 5th jumpjet makes a big difference.

If your playing a longer ranged game, 4 or even 3 jumpjets is enough, it lets you get most high places, and take shortcuts that aren't available to everyone else.

Even you just want the ability to pull quick turns and hop behind cover 1 will do just fine.

I use the JJs on my Trenchbucket constantly. I almost never have a full fuel bar during combat. Personally, I recommend no less than five, as they add a ton of survivability and make it easier to deal damage.
