My introduction to the battletech universe began with Mechwarrior 2: 31st Century Combat on the PC. I played on my old 486-100mhz, such a blast, clan wolf vs jade falcon.

Since that time my only real link to the Btech universe was reading a few sourcebook and playing all the Mechwarrior games. never played tabletop, never read novels, But recently I did acquire some of the old BTech novels and began reading some of them. Some i thought were pretty decent, some I have been pretty disappointed with lol.

Anyways I was reading Robert Charrette's classic "Wolf Pack" in which a rival faction forms within the Wolf's Dragoons and attempts a coup against Jaime Wolf. The rebel group was lead by a clanner from Clan Nova Cat taken bondsman by the dragoons, and aligned with his faction were a lot of the Dragoons who felt that the merc unit should be more clan-like and reject the inner sphere.

I was particularly interested in this little civil-war and was disappointed at how easily Jaime Wolf obliterated the opposition :) but in any case, one particular passage fascinated me.

In chapter 38 it reads, "Reluctantly, Dechan walked to the guard station. The guard captain wore the stylized wolf's-head favored by the partisans of the new order. Though he seemed...etc"

I was trying really hard to imagine what this might look like. In my imagination, it seemed natural for a pro-clan faction within the Wolf's Dragoons to identify and adopt symbolism from Clan Wolf, due to the shared history. So I imagined this...

I am curious what anybody might think or have to say about this little theory, or if anyone else out there who has read "Wolf Pack" has ever considered what that might look like, or dreamed of what might have been. Any thoughts on Jaime vs Alpin Wolf? Thoughts about this novel whatsoever?

Open for discussion, theories, opinions, etc.

Saying Jamie Wolf 'obliterated' the opposition with ease may be a overstatement but other than that, I can easily see the 'wolf pack' adopted a logo closer to that of a Wolf Clan unit to go along with their ideology.

I like that new logo.

However it has been so long sense I read Wolf Pack I have no idea why the Dragoons had a civil war.
