The 4P and 4SP are my 1st two mechs and I played quite a lot. I find it quite long to gain C-Bills and I'm a bit pissed that it take 3 of the same family to unlock Elite stuff. I wanted to try a different mechs, but now with 2 HBK already, why not get the 3rd now and unlock the Elite stuff.

So, for now I only tried Energy and Missiles. At first I thought I would go with the 4G because I would finally be able to try Ballistic and I said, hell why not go full Ballistic!

Then I read a few posts discussing between the 2 and I think I may end up going with the 4H.
Yet I build this AC/20, and I think the other viable option would be a Gauss I guess?

BTW, I know Gauss ammos don't explode but the gun yes and do 20 damage. Does a C.A.S.E. help here or it's only for ammos?

Thanks

The general consensus is very well stated in the Ultimate Hunchback guide thread. Basically, if you want a main cannon, the H is the better choice. If you want several smaller cannons, like a pair of UAC5s, or even triple AC2s, the G is the only one that can do that. If you really like large energy weapons, running the G with paired lrg pulses, or PPCs and triple MGs is actually a really fun way to brawl- seeing those component destroyed messages pop up is way, way more satisfying than it should be. I chose the G, and I've really enjoyed it- but I can honestly say that even now, something less than 8500 exp away from mastering it, I still don't know what the best thing to put in that hunch is. My standard, as far as it goes, is an AC20 with paired MGs, and MLs for backup. Like I said though, I find it really satisfying to Crit mechs and blow out components.

4H, from what I've gathered, is much more straightforward- Main gun, +MLs.

Read over the options, and choose one that suits you.

Yeah get the H over the G. The weight of the hunchback limits the options when you have 3 ballistic points. The 5 energy 1 ballistic is much better.

I went from a 4SP to a 4P and love it. Then I had to choose my 3rd Hunchback and I dreaded it. I finally went with the 4G and fitted it with dual AC5s.

Honestly, though, I put athe bare minimum of investment into it. I basically moved some weapons around then the second I got it's basics maxed I bought the elites for my 4SP then sold the 4G and never once batted an eye at it's departing. I never even upgraded it.

Why not go for the 4J?

LRM's will be fixed. Just put tag and Artemis on and all you have to do is stay at 180 meters and rain death.

My founders G is my favorite mech in the game. It is not however even the best HBK. I like tinkering with it, but you get more bang for the buck on one of the others.

Honestly, I think the SP is now overshadowed by the Shot gun JM.

I had the same debate a few weeks ago and I went with the H. Dropped in an Ultra AC5 and, with some self control on fire discipline, am loving it. Is now my favorite mech of the 4 I own, excelling at city/hill based hit and runs (which it was  built it for). I'd say to pick one up, drop in an AC of choice and a few mixed lasers, and have fun.

FYI, here my base build. The loadout out changes every so often, but always comes back to this...

The 3 SLs are grouped, the AC is solo, the arm mounted MLs are grouped.

As you know, in a hunchie your friend is mobility. The AC20 is nice, but its slow as %^$*. The UAC5 lets yous get in, drop a shot (or two) a second and ditch out - fast, low heat, good dps, decent ammo in minimal space. IMHO it compliments the ballistic hunchie quite well.

IMO Avoid the 4J. Once the hunch is gone you lose 6 of your 8 hardpoints (Right arm goes too).
The Trebuchets, Catapults and Stalkers do LRMs so much better.

The shoulder a problem all hunchbacks but the 4SP have so I'm not sure how it's relevant when the OP needs a new hunchback to fill out his stable.

I'll add my vote for the H as well.

I run with either an AC20 or Gauss. It's kind of the point of the mech to use a single large cannon. Multiple smaller guns require you to expose yourself while dishing out the dakka. With the bigger slower guns you pop out and get your hit, then take cover before the hate comes at you.

If it's the AC20 that you like on the G, you can ALWAYS replace the AC10 on the H model with an AC20 or Gauss and still get the benefit of the better hardpoint layout.
