I'd say the Timber Wolf is the worst named 'mech because it isn't made out of timber and it isn't a wolf. ;)

Way before the age but...the longbow doesn't have a longbow
raven doesn't look like a raven to mean
just 2 throw this out there..
shadowcat does not look like a black cat at all
and Zeus doesn't look like a god to me or godly powers

But the Annihilator...man that sure does annihilates
also bushwacker...doesn't really whack bushes...just sayiiing

and alssoooo to be called the HUNCHback...its's back really isn't that Hunched at all

What do you think when you hear "dragon"? Giant, fire-breathing, monster that can fly; Right? So how is it that the Dragon 'mech doesn't normally have flamers and can not mount JJs?

Not too mention that dragons are traditionally loners that prefer ambush tactics, which is the opposite of the Dragon 'mech which works best in groups slowly wearing down targets.

the only thing that makes the Dragon slightly deserving of its name is the fact that it has a "snout"

I think I would rather call it a Dog: barking at you from far away then running when you get close

FYI the Dragon is one of my favorite 'mechs

Wow, way to totally miss the cultural references. The Dragon was designed in the Draconis Combine, which is loosely based on Japanese culture. So umm yea....their dragons aren't Western in nature.

What, would you prefer it was named "60-ton-heavy-mech-with-an-ac/2-and-two-medium-lasers-with-an-LRM-loaded-center-torso-that-looks-like-a-big-nose"? Kind of hard to say something like that in the thick of battle.

[rolls eyes]
becaue the Draconis Combine's iconic creature is the Dragon, and the Dragon is the Draconis Combine's number one Iconic mech [/roll's eyes]

The M1 Abrams tank doesn't look much like General Abrams either...

Only you are Eurocentric. In other cultures some dragons don't fly or breath fire.

I would've thought 'Dragon' implies that it swoops in and smashes the ***** out of mechs, though I wouldn't called the AC5 it's usually equipted with a killer. (Apart from the MW4 varient thats got a Hvy Gauss), it is very fast though which is cool. Why it never got Jump Jets with that name is also a mystery =P But yea the Draconis were proud enough to give it that name.

Aptly named mechs are always misleading, the Bushwacker has a hatred for underbrush? The Black Jack is good at card games? The Crab is only ever piloted by drunk mechwarriors and is piloted sideways like a boss.
