I used to run my YLW with 2x mpl and 1x AC20. However, since the two new larger maps have been introduced, I've found myself in situations where in order to pull my weight I had to either:

a: upgrade to some sort of longer range weapon system

OR

b: upgrading the engine tremendously for better speed

Being a close to medium range dedicated brawler who can't move at speeds in excess of ~85kph is a real killer on these maps (moreso alpine).

The only things I can think of are to swap out the AC20 for a Gauss or shoehorn a pair of AC2s or AC5s on there, or upgrade to a bigger, faster XL engine which I would probably have to do to shoehorn multiple ACs into the right arm anyway.

Suggestions?

EDIT: Current engine is a STD 225

To XL or not to XL.
That is the question.

I went for Centurion Blasphemy

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...1869af971cbbdf2

XL 300
2 Med pulse
AC/20 with 3t ammo
12 DHS, Endo, Ferro

-----------------------------

A non-heretic build would be ->

or alternatively stripping some armor for another ton of ammunition

These builds are "true" Centurion builds.

Very tough.

IMO you still want the good build, even on large maps. There's no map in the game where you can't use cover to get into range.

why don't you try replace the ac/20 with an uac/5, ac/20s are really heavy and other weapons on your mech have room for improvement, you won't loss to much dps, and you would have more weight to play around with, as well as more range, thats what i did with my brawling ctf-2x, maybe you could put the free tonnage towards large laserz

well the wang got limited hardpoints so putting on the ac20 is a very good option.
2x laser are in the torso so either 1xLL or 2xML/MP

Imho the whole purpose of the Yen Lo Wang is that he can fit an AC/20 in his arm -
otherwise you can just make a CN9-A which has 3 Missile Hardpoints on top.

In BETA there was the CN9-AH with AC/20 AND Missile Harpoints.
Best Mech ever.

Bah, why did you have to tell me that??? Now every time I drop into my favorite chassis I'm going to think to myself "yeah, it's nice and all, but it's no a 9-AH..."

On-topic, don't forget that the Yen-lo-Wang also has 20 degrees greater torso twist than other Centurions. Which is important, since the autocannon arm can't pivot horizontally and most Centurion weapons are on the torsos.

If you are interested in range there is always the option to use a Gauss Rifle instead of the AC/20. That said I use the YLW on the large maps but I learned that I have to stick with using terrain and being sure to run close to the rest of the team.

My Build:
2 ML
AC/20 4 Tons Ammo
STD260 (I think, I need to check when I get home)

XLs are nice but with the restrictions on hardpoints the only thing you benefit from is speed. I perfer trying to move methodically at 89KPH (speed tweak) and have the left arm and torso be my shield.

From the other thread:
I've got over 300k experience now in my YLW and I have to say my favorite config is:

Standard 255
DHS
Endo/FF
4 tons of AC 20 ammo
1 AC 20

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...8e13b7024bbc48b

90.9 KPH speed tweaked, a standard engine, enough ammo to matter. Generally pulls 300-800 dmg per game, depending on what kind of night I'm having. I love having a standard engine in this and going zombie mode on people after finally losing my arm :D

That said...

In canon, the AC20 was phased out in favor of the Gauss because of the increased range. Personally, I prefer cover and mobility. I have however run the Gauss + 4-5 tons and it works great until they get close enough to shoot it off.
