It's true. There is a percentage of people who don't read patch notes or check the forums. Things that can easily be fixed by updating your video drivers. Those should be put on the client itself. Because they will simply just stop playing if the game doesn't work for them. Their level of commitment isn't that deep if they're not willing to check the website. And they're that larger playerbase the company wants.

Perhaps. But their casual nature also doesn't make them the most money spending bunch. I think that's reserved for the hardcore fans. Even so, someone new trying the game for the first time will be put off by having his mini map disappear or textures not render, and just never touch it again. There goes a potential customer. Let's all wave. /wave

Wrong, flat out wrong.
You seriously underestimate just how lazy most people are.
And they are, in point of fact, the majority. So not only do they exist, they have more of an impact on this game than we do, like it or not.

Silly mechwarrior!

The zombies make this game financially viable. Without them there IS NO GAME.

Get it?

10k players is not enough to keep even a crappy flash game above water. And it's that kind of elitist attitude that will kill this game for the hardcore people.

Check your head.

you need to check you head if there is a need to cry to PGI that they neglect their so called "silent majority"
but you don't cry to PGI, cuz they don't listen, you cry to us, to me, and .. oh boy I so don't care about them

you call me an "elitist" for what exactly? using the forums?!!?
aren't you an "elitist" too, since you do have 3 times more posts than me?

you need to check the mirror before calling the kettle black

if they don't read the patch notes for a BETA game they're "playing", what makes you think they would read some e-mail from PGI? :(
would they even know what PGI is?

LOL!!!!

It's all good dude make it personal more.

Please note the orange founders tag. Please explain what am i crying about? Is anything iv'e stated crying?

You obviously did not understand my original post. Nowhere did i even IMPLY that PGI is "neglecting" anyone. I did express a deep concern about new player retention. This patch taken as a whole is a step or two backwards, and the game is just barely playable for most people here on the forums, where we share information and ways to make the game playable. That the majority of MWO users do not get access to that information is troubling if you put any thought into it.

Go read my original post again, and see if your reading comprehension has improved. The future of this game depends on fresh meat. And September is coming up fast.

Ok after seeing your edit, you obviously have no idea what you are talking about. Welcome to my ignore list.

My drivers are up to date and the game is still broken as ****.

As for the patch notes, where are they? I didn't see them when I booted up the client after the downtime ended, and in fact I just went to reddit to find them since it is so much easier to navigate than to critical information that absolutely should've been right on the front page but was instead buried in a forum somewhere (at least I think; I gave up after 30 seconds and just used an external option).

So I just checked. They aren't in the command chair. They aren't listed when you boot up the client. They aren't in the patch feedback forum.

Instead they're located at an unlinked URL that may be accessed with a ****** little button in the top right of the client when they should be THE FIRST thing you see at mwomercs.com's front page, and they should be right in the newsfeed on the launcher.

Ridiculous.

*sigh* Going to mwomercs.com, clicking on "Game", then clicking on "Patch Notes" is indeed an extremely complicated and unintuitive sequence, no doubts about that.

as for the players not here, it's not PGI's job to knock on their doors, like bible salesmen, and upgrade their video card drivers for them because they're too lazy
there is a special note inside the patch notes regarding this very issue, should PGI personally call them and notify of patch notes existence?
if you're making a public service announcement, why don't you personally notify them? since you care so much

and there's this topic: http://mwomercs.com/...e-your-drivers/
how would PGI, that need feedback, would know if a potential fix is actually working if this "silent majority" doesn't want to reply
doesn't it fell on us, the "non existent" voice of minority to provide the needed feedback?

Don't worry outside of this thread you get ignored.

And yes, is IS PGI's job to knock on the doors! It is EXACTLY their job! If the game they make *requires* players to update then, YES IT IS THEIR JOB TO TELL THEIR USER BASE that they need to upgrade their drivers. And NOT just here on the forums. Maybe even provide a How-To in an e-mail for the less computer literate users. Because guess what, there are much more of them, than of us here on the forums.

But even if they did, most people would not answer or listen, and that is the point. People will see glitches and bugs, and just drop the whole idea of playing this game. So the real point i guess...is that patches like this should not be happening at this point in the life of the game. Stuff this bad should have stopped appearing before open beta.

There's really no point. As I stated earlier, it's pretty much the same thing:

"We fixed a bug we introduced three months ago".

"Added [insert vanity item]"

"Added XYZ mech" (specs are about the only point I read in detail).

"Known issues: The fix for the thing we broke three months ago has some minor issues, so we broke it more temporarily so the game could be played".

The above isn't new. Name every addition to the game, and there are notes like this. Artemis? "Double" Heat Sinks? Missile Flight? ECM (not talking about the intended effects, but the actual code-broken part which required a hotfix)? ELO? Matchmaking? New mech?

I can go on. "Not updating video drivers" isn't the overall problem.
