As it stands River City at night is unplayable for me I keep crashing out of it. If you allow for map selection by the players at least I could avoid this map. Another positive about map selection is you can see how much certain maps are being used and if one or two maps seem to get unused they could be set aside for a new map.

I do realize we only have a few maps but this could be used in the future.

Or better yet redesigned.

Once Alpine Peaks started seeing serious disuse, it'd be a clear indicator to them that the map needs adjusting to be interesting.

Hey! They've said that there will be a "lobby" system that will allow players to "vote" on the maps and pick their mechs for the map selected. Not sure exactly what that will look like, but I believe it's slated to come with UI 2.0.

How about no? if you can choose your map you can make drops specifically for that map and have an advantage. plus then people would only play 2 or 3 maps. having all maps in rotation forces a balanced drop (sort of)

I LIKE random map selection. Adds a little realism (you're a dumb grunt in a battle mech, you go where you're told regardless of mech load out), and it keeps people from min maxing to the map.

How about yes? Last time i checked when you go to war in Battletech, you know where you drop. Com Star certainly didn't spawn in random Battle Mechs at the Battle of Tukayyid, crossing their fingers, and hoping for the best. "What should we do guys, some space pirate {Godwin's Law}'s are on our planet yo!" "I don't know bro, who are those dudes again?"

You plan for a battle, through and through. Rolling dice when clicking 'Launch' is not my cup of tea.

Besides, PGI already said the upcoming lobby modes would have the ability to basically select or vote for maps anyways. And the CW mode will be basically the same thing, a planet represents a certain map, so you know what to expect.

People that want random can play random, and those that don't won't have to. Simple.

Did you forget about the selection of multiple Mechs to choose from? I'd always have a long-distance mech amongst the selection, just in case Alpine pops up. If you only select brawlers and get a Alpine-like map, then you kinda messed that up yourself.

Battlemechs are not a M16. Battlemechs are rare and only given to the best pilots. They are much too precious to bo randomly thrown around.
