Before you hold another tournament of any kind you need to address the map selection issue. Plain and simple many of us excel at certain builds some of which are all but useless on some maps. Take my Flame for example AC/20 SRM6 4 Med laser 49 point alpha and totally useless on alpine.
Not only is it a short range brawler but has a massive CT and with the limited cover even crossing from one cover point to another the ct will be all but cored b4 you can get into range. Then the inevitable happens 1-4 outgoing alphas before the ct is gone from enemy fire. On ANY other map I can close the range under cover and be of some use.
We need the option to Choose the maps we will bring any given mech to. Some with high heat builds would prefer not to run on caustic or tourmaline, LRM build dislike river city in general. there are many reasons to not want to take a given build on a given map and in a sense of realism we would not take certain builds dependent upon local conditions.
IRL you DON'T bring an M1 Abrams into the Louisiana Swamps, you bring infantry LCAC's and the like.
Forcing me to fight my short ranged mech on a map like alpine in a tournament is handicapping me, lessening my chance of a good match for the tournament. Plain and simple in a tournament I should be able to choose the terrain my mech will fight in.
Allow us to Bring a terrain appropriate mech, and we will be happy. This should be a MAJOR feature to keep your players happy Implement it ASAP.
Before You Hold Another Tournament........

Yes, let's promote all short range maps so your short range mech builds work 100% of the time.
Great idea, let's just drop heat as well... we need more cold maps because overheating is OP.
I love these "out of the box ideas", now where do I sign up for the 6 MG spider?

I think what Ashvins is trying to say (and I agree with it...) is that you do end up handicapped with the current system. Saying he's complaining about using his short range build is missing his point.
He could inversely have a long range sniper build and have you say he's complaining about small maps...again that is missing the point.
Having 9 odd maps, but generally getting 2 or 3 regularly and with no way to know which map will drop is just silly IMO. It's the same problem with different camo specs right now. Have a woodland pattern and colors and get dropped into a snow map. You would put a snow camo on if you and your lance were about to drop onto an icy, snowy planet for a mission? Nope Cant choose under the current system. His point is, right now specialization is a handicap quite often, simply because you have no idea which map will drop or which build you can use.
How about trying to level the pilot tree with your variants? In most cases each is suited to certain formats and terrain, playstyle etc... but you get the random drop and bang! You realize your build will be less than stellar for the map, never mind a group with a poor mix of classes/builds. The OP has a legitimate post and although saying it should happen now appears to be wishful thinking, I generally agree with his/her assessment.
I know they are planning a lobby/drop ship area, but it probably can't get here fast enough.
