Appeal of the Marauder

I guess it has a half decent armament for a heavy, but otherwise I don't see it. It's not very fast, and no JJs to off set that speed unlike the Cataphract for example. Also the looks aren't very pleasing, the torso is ok, and in some pictures the usually gibbon-like arms look decent too, but the massive legs and the oversized top gun (it's only an AC/5 afterall) just throw it all off.
Not looking for an essay, just a quick reason why it has such a following, without just saying 'But dude! It's UNSEEEEEEEEEEEN!!'.
Cheers, CJ.

In the fluff it always seemed to be the heavy mech that mechwarriors aimed to get, or were rewarded with once they reached a certain skill level. In the right hands it is deadly.

Ok I'm kind of getting the picture, although playing MW3 and 4, I'm pretty new to the Battletech universe. I hadn't realised it had that amount of history, since looking up stuff now I just see everything so far, not knowing when they were introduced etc. I guess I'm getting abit swamped in reading up about everything.

Its one of THE most iconic mechs for old Battletech players (along with Warhammer, Rifleman, Locust and Battlemaster).
I love it!

PPC's were decent range direct fire weapons and had very high damage-tonnage ratio, and itpacked two of them. Aside from its look, it was a well put together brawler. Compare to the Orion, with the same armor, and speed, and it carries 8 tons of ammunition, hitting any of which will seriously impair if not destroy the mech.

I've been trying to remember the name of that movie for ages! So I thank you for that haha. I guess coming into Battletech with Mechwarrior 3 (free copy in a magazine in the early 2000's!) I've missed out on alot of stuff, never really been into internet communities either previously, so never got caught up at all till now.

That's a nice technical summary, cleared up some doubts of it's capabilities, thanks.

Big West owns Macross. I would think HG doesn't really own anything anymore...so the theory goes.

Not stolen. Fasa got permission directly from the the original artist to use it. Unfortunately, so did Harmony Gold, and they wanted to prevent anyone else from distributing its likeness.

HG right to distribute had laps when CGL attempted to regain the 'unssen' but a sealed legal agreement going back to the original FASA vs HG case was written in some murky laguage that somehow allows HG to retain their distribution rights to the Macross/Robotech property in the US. I'm sure it can be overturned if someone put up the money for the court case but untill then, HG's lawyers are acting like a junkyard dog with a bone.

Get your information correct. FASA stole nothing. They had licenses. The problem came from two different Japanese companies giving rights to two different US companies. They agreed never to use the art work again because they never wanted to deal with it again.
