This demand is nothing new. Since the early days of closed beta people are asking for simple quick commands like they know from other games, e.g. World of Tanks.

But the Chat-system must be really difficult to programm, because it is basically unchanged since the very beginning, Other possible answer would be that PGI just doesn't care.

Sure lets try to add another layer of communication to a game that has problems dumping players to desktop.

You know "Green Atlas" works as a call out as well as "Fire Delta". Yes I am a slow typer myself, so I know that issue of hand. It is a good idea, but I want stability fixed first.

What about the proofed WoT system?
Where players can simply mark a target? (obviously only visible for the own team, the targeted unit gets a red arrow pointing on it displayed on top of it for ~5s)

What about BB making comments about things that are happening.

Like... oh I don't know.

"This is HQ to any available units: we have Mechs down at Nav Gamma. Bravo Cadet reports 4 subjects on site. Bandits are hostile. Repeat, Bandits are hostile."

?

At the beginning of the game maybe Seph. That would give some immersion and a reason to capture the base?

Uhm...you guys do realize that one can't target a mech under ECM umbrella without countering ECM first, right? Just checking... :)

And that's why ECM should only be doing this to the mech equipped with ECM itself. All other mechs within 180m should be targetable but at decreased lockon speed.

We need SOMETHING like this, or integrated voice chat.

Typing things out is way too slow, and it doesn't help that they still haven't fixed the backspace bug or fixed the illegible text...

Timely communication is KEY, people... and text messages just won't cut it.

There is little reason for this not to exist. Currently I use the text chat and transmit single call letters in PUGs but if you're new, you probably have no idea why someone is typing "C" in text chat.

Sure, add this - lance and drop level. It won't help premades much (Voice Chat) but it'll help PUGs immensely and I think that's a good thing.

Every single time they say something about how they are making the command and control thing better, or they are improving lance commands I think they are going to do this. It seems like the most obvious thing in the world. Really best idea ever. Awesome. Amazing. Worth forum rioting about until they fix it. I am serious. It was a stupid move for them to not have included this from the beginning But it will never happen. They will never touch this one with a ten foot pool. Because ecm would be weakened or totally negate this. They are to blindly protecting their vision of ecm to do anything that might hurt it. Face it, good ideas involving targeting or team play, communication will never see the light of day as long as ecm remains even close to how it is now.

I gotta admit - I am not exactly new, but I have no slightest idea why someone would type "C" in chat and what it's supposed to mean.

You know how 'mechs have different targeting letters in the reticule? A, B, C, D, E, etc?

That's how you can ID a target. On voice chat we're say "Target Charlie" but when it comes to text, if you just write C it's the quickest way to do it (in a fight). You don't have time to type in something akin to "Prime D" if you want to keep your armor in one piece. :D

I usually try to explain this on the way in, but I'm not even sure most new players are aware of the targeting letters so they just get confused.

EDIT: It doesn't help my ELO is in the toilet from suiciding about 17 times last night alone to get 5 8v8s going with the current crashes.

It would be more than it is a lower priority over other things. It isn't that a better chat/command system isn't important, it is that there are more important and/or more urgent things needing attention first.

I see what you did there. Wouldn't that require machine guns powerful enough to destroy/disable the arm on their own, though?
