Before I start, I would like to say that this thread is about the implications of Artemis, and is not for discussion about how it was all a massive let down with pictures of sad kitties.

This is for the people, like me, that actually think Artemis is cracking and want to talk about the awesome potential is has and represents. If you want to complain, go to the MEGATHREAD.

Anyway.
A ) looks great. Though I hope they do one in black/gun metal.
B ) separate screen functions? Sim-pit potential? Tablet support?
C ) You think we can split the three elements up to install them in a sim-pit?
D ) will it get me any more chicks?

My major question is why it didn't have a force feedback capable Hula girl peripheral. Other than that I'm good to go.

C) Yes they will be splitable, we can see that in the youtube trailer at the end, when it says "devices are interconnected". Pretty sure

split-able yes...but can they function separate from each other/ i.e keyboard/throttle element on my left hand, on the right side the joystick and in the middle the screen? either bluetooth or extension cables, perhaps? or separate USB cable inputs?

Shades of Steel Battalion.

I can't quite see spending the kind of money this thing is likely to cost on a second joystick plus screen plus slider throttle/game pad that will work with only one game, especially since I have an X52 that will work with all my other flight sim games. Maybe, down the road, if there's a more standard-sized throttle added - it sounds like there's some modularity to the design - then I might take a second look, especially as I get to a better place, financially (read: I finally find a freakin' job).

As it stands, I think it's a cool gimmick, and hopefully this will become a fully-fledged part of Razr's product line, but for now I'm just an interested observer.

Doesn't this confirm the use of multiple screens for HUD elements?

See now...That's what I think...And if that's as it turns out, then that will be AWESOME.

Artemis?
Isn't that the add-on thingy for LRMs to be more accurate?

Yes. Also the name for the MWO/Razer concept custom game controller...

I'd buy it if they made a mirror image one, with joystick in left hand.

While i think this controller is incredibly cool, I can't help but think... wouldn't it be more cost effective (and probably more successful) if the screen part is rather just a mount for a tablet or smartphone? The app can come with the controller and possibly require you to plug in via USB while the device is in the mount?

I know that it might be hard to support many different devices this way, but surly for a hardcore gaming community like us battletech guys we could figure out how to make this work?

That is not easy whatsoever. It also introduces a ton of latency issues and decimates performance. There's also further costs associated with doing as such as well as support problems and dealing with another vendor to distribute it. Also you'd have to have universal adapters, and oh yeah - you'd have to actually have been one of the sheeple who owns a tablet.

Yeah..... guess it was a bit of a pipe dream. Tablets are kinda catching on like wildfire in my country (at least among people I know) so thats immediately what came to mind when I saw the screen in the controller. I myself don't have a tablet though, prefer my e-reader.

I guess that makes me a "sheeple". So thanks for that.

there are already Apps our there that turn tablets into secondary monitors, even control/touch sensitive...gets my thoughts a-thinking....

I'm with Frosty for using tablets in there. I'm also +1 for this being Steel Battalion nostalgia. But it really SHOULD be modular, if not to be sold separately at least so people with varying set ups can place it comfortably for how they want to place their hands, plus joystick on left options.
Edit: Don't want to quote Frostiken because I don't think his post merits it, but the logistics can't be THAT hard to overcome, the Asus Transformer is built ready to dock, and as other people have said they're becoming VERY popular and already serve in similar functions.

I've seen them used for other games that allow a great amount of exporting data, and there's still latency issues, because you're not using an extension of your computer, you're using a second computer connected to yours over an itty-bitty USB line. You effectively have to program the thing twice.

I see where you're coming from, and in an IDEAL world, having that thing being a touchscreen-enabled multi-monitor thing would be awesome, but it's prohibitively expensive and over-complicated for little payoff.

Simply functioning as a second monitor and allowing the game to natively export screen elements is the most cost-effective option.

It'll be interesting if it is a second monitor, I find it hard to believe such a thing could function over USB shared with a keypad and stick, it may just be its own utility running akin to the Logitech LCD keyboards.
