Has The Atlas Been Outshone By The Other Assaults?

Hell, it may not even be the metagame so much as the nature of a sim vs tabletop/books. Alpha striking + cover seeking is king. The former is pretty straightforward, and the latter means either poptarting or having high speed so one can duck back after firing.
Is it at all feasible to buff the Atlas in some way or another? I'm leaving it open ended here because while I feel it could use some sort of buff, I'm not certain on what form it should take...
Barring that, how about a Hero Atlas once the non-founders mechs have all gotten a Hero variant?

I'd still prefer more armor and/or more internal structure points, but that would be great as well.

I could see a 10% increase. If after months, it still seems to squishy, give it another 5% at a time. What I don't want to see is a huge change that would make it Atlas Warrior: Online. No one wants that.

Small problem: the Atlas II is, at this point in the timeline, essentially a Clan mech.

I was hoping no one would notice that
Also if it was a hero mech that wouldn't be a problem! Just say it was one of the few remnants! Say, unfinished ones in factories, or damaged ones that were deemed not fit for transport.

Of course you'll see less in PUGs since casual players don't really want to "take one for the team" when the whole reason to field an Atlas is to do just that.

For me, there is only one unit that could outshine the Atlas; the Omega; and we won't have that for a very long time.

The Trial Atlases aren't very good. The slower the chassis the more important the pilot skills become. And getting them to elite and 2x the basic skills really make a difference. The Atlas can either be the bullet magnet for the team or the ace in the hold. Being the last mech in an Atlas with light damage against 4 badly damaged mechs can be a satisfying win.

Combined fire is so devastatingly effective that an outnumbered 'Mech, regardless of size, is unlikely to survive. Drawing fire only works if you have allies firing back for you. And something the size of an Atlas draws quite a bit of fire.

Most likely will end up being outrun. I've seen that happen a couple times.
i.e. a clean Atlas got killed by heavily damaged lighter mechs.

Either way an Atlas is still an Atlas if you pilot it correctly. Now if I ran into 3 Kaos members in 732s I would ripped to pieces but that's a different story.
